joe_bass
Hi guys having problems getting hold of tapered strings to fit my jazz bass. Had a look at some threads on the subject, eg: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...&hl=tapered but only really recommends brands. Don't know much about the likes of Labella etc. I'd like some bright strings that will last a while so pref not Rotosounds. Wanted to put DR's on the bass when I got it but it doesn't seem they do tapered. So can anyone recommend me some, a specific set perhaps which would do some good!? Been wanting to restring this bass since I got it in Dec, had 2 different sets from GAK which I was told would fit but haven't! Cheers Joe
johnnylager
Any good? http://www.fender.co.uk/products//search.p...rtno=0738250006. I have used them through bridge [BadAss II], not through body. 4's only mind, I don't know if there's a 5 set... Tee
I'm actually remarkably surprised/happy with Fender 8250M .45 .65 .85 .110TW that came on my 2008 US P. This is the first time i haven't instantly restrung a new bass. In fact, i bought another set. The taperwound E does a great job slotting into the saddle. They also have 5 string sets. Oh and i normally use DR Lo Riders (kerching) Edit: just seen the above post. I use them through-body. I think it's the best fit for them. Mr. Foxen
Newtone can make them to your specification, I've asked specifically if they can make the taper the right length for through body, and they indeed can, just give them measurements. lozbass
Newtone can make them to your specification, I've asked specifically if they can make the taper the right length for through body, and they indeed can, just give them measurements.
I'd recommend Newtone too - they can do pretty much anything you want if you supply dimensions and a detailed spec (in fact, it's important to be careful with the spec becuase Newtone will do pretty much EXACTLY what you ask). I had a couple of custom sets recently - with some unusual features - and have been massively impressed with the quality and service. Newtone aren't cheap but they are good (IMO). If you're looking for something really bright, 'phone the company (or email) and ask for advice - their knowledge is extensive (it's a very small company and making strings is all they do)
franzbassist
I would recommend Ken Smith tapercores, they are most excellent strings.

hubrad
Yeah, I liked them, nickels if I remember correctly.
Hi there, The shop where I work has the La Bella Super Steps in http://www.themusicroom-online.co.uk/produ...roducts_id/4361 I've not used them myself as I'm into flatties myself these days, but I've sold quite a few sets in the shop with no complaints at all. I measured the ball to step distance to be 54mm or 2 1/8".. check with your bass as to whether that's enough. They seem to have a good endorsement or two - Alain Caron on La Bella website - so by those two factors I'd say they must be ok. My boss extended a sale 'til midinight tonight so they'd come out at £15 inc p+p if you get in there swift-like! Much cheer HUGH
bassbloke
I use the Fender superbass 8250s on all of my Fenders. They're designed for through body stringing. They are very good strings. Musical, nice tone and, well, good strings are good strings. Did I mention that I thought they were quite good? Funnily enough, I went through a a few different makes, most notably Warwick EMPs, but was drawn to the Fenders because of the 110 E and the fact that they're very reasonably priced from StringsDirect.
