Tom was ace.

bit of a complicated situation, new guitarist messaged two days ago, his other half had a covid test due to symptoms and they had to isolate. Hoping that test comes back negative so we can crack on.

Tom turned up with a stage piano, a strat, an acoustic and a vox amp.

he plays guitar well, decent rhythm player...

sings beautifully. He wants to come back, we had a laugh.

Next Tuesday, we should be in a room again.

tested the new Zoom H4n - what a great thing that is.

Tom is the guy.

had a full rehearsal tonight now Andy (guitarist) is out of isolation.

some great stuff tonight.

He has lyrics, suggestions and relaxed with the guitar - adding nice bits.

Righto, second full band rehearsal...

all good, time to develop more ideas.

Tom and Andy really get on.

Imagine my horror when drummer seemed a little despondent tonight.

i’m starting to develop a complex...

Are you still able to continue rehearsing with Tier 3 being implemented up in your area ?

According to the manager of rehearsal space, he can still operate.

if any of us developed symptoms we’d cancel obviously.

Well...just getting going...and another lockdown.

Anyhow. Feels this journey is complete for now.

tried editing 2 videos and audio together on iMovie (iPhone) and couldn’t get it to behave.

So...here’s a video of a song we’ve been working on...me and Tom playing (the other angle is Max and Andy guitar)

The rehearsal space is closing, but the studio will run for drum takes so...we might get to do what we want during lockdown.

Again, @PatrickJ managed to mix the first video I posted with another angle, just feels much better (thanks mate xxx)

Was an opportunity for me to have a play with Abobe Premiere - I went a bit over the top with the second one :/

Have you contacted the Guinness Book of Records yet? This has to be the longest set of auditions in musical history. Only joking.

Well yeah, I read back over this thread earlier today.

Ive gone through more band members than basses in 2020 - isn’t that shocking?

😂

So. Brief recap

The singer quit. In a huff.

We never replied.

And he admitted he was being a massive knob. And really missed it.

Guitarist who “moved to Birmingham”, has messaged - the move didn’t go well…so much so he’s bought a place up the road In Didsbury (posh fecker).

So all the reasons we jacked…gone.

We meet on Monday.

Either. We’ll ride off into the sunset.

or…it’ll crash and burn.

I’m genuinely unsure what this means for the current setup with Tom and Andy…🤨🙄🤦🏻‍♂️

So Monday's going to end in either hugs or full on fight.

You should go full soap opera.

Keep the current setup but start seeing the old band on the sly.

Eventually both bands will end up with bookings on the same night and you'll have to tell one that you're leaving them for the other....

Sometimes it pays to be humble and reliable

Hate to tell the truth but to a certain degree  this is the only thing that matters.  Ive played in bands where no one really cared to much what I was playing and we were doing tasty funky poppy stuff...As long as I hit some key notes, played a confident groove and chucked in any old lines I deemed appropriate all was well......Never go to an audition thinking you need to impress unless the band ask for it..

What counts is attitude and personality and a modicum of ability

I’ve really no idea what will come of this.

I’m also recording with another project now - involving the first drummer the 602 had.

hmm.

Dirty Den.

Lots of bands! Give them all a bit of time and see which one(s) have any staying power? :)

I made the decision after lockdown to be in as many bands as I could feasibly manage, and enjoy all the experiences i could.

All will turn out for the best for you in the end. Keep your options open.

Me too. Current count is 5, none of them are particularly prolific in rehearsing and gigging so I'm not madly busy but I'm covering rock, blues, pop, punk and kids music so can't complain.

Enjoy them all @AndyTravis :)

This thread has revived at an opportune time... My 80s band wants to start to audition keys players.... Wish me luck! Every keys player I've ever met has had a distinct serial killer vibe.
