Cuzzie
So....they are doing an old fashioned tournament shoot out of various bass DI’s and so far there have been 2 match ups between @Tech21NYC and Darkglass - they are doing it pretty well actually. Tech21 kills it each time Let the games begin! Edited February 7, 2020 by Cuzzie
adamg67
That was all pretty random, it did reinforce the fact that the best thing to do is buy second hand and try things out for yourself. I've got a vintage ultra at the mo and it sounds a lot better to me than the one in the video did, it needs a bit of time spent getting it right for a given bass. I'll be looking out for more DI pedals to try it against when I've got some pennies saved, what I like will stay and what I don't like will get sold on. I suppose it gives you a bit of an idea what the pedals do, no way it tells you which is "best". Sounds all a bit negative I know but the more reviews I see of gear I actually own the less I think they help.
Cuzzie
I always advocate spending time with a pedal, but with a half decent review it should give you a ball park and then if you know your own scope and likes then you can glean a lot from what it could potentially do for you. I have personally played around with a few from each of the mentioned companies range - for me Tech21 every time, it’s not to say DG is poop
Romeo2
While demo videos give us quite a good idea of the pedals' features, just like the videos above way too often they are recorded with instruments soloed, in a band mix or at least with drums the pedals will either sink or swim, and that's the real test unless you plan on playing rock riffs as a solo act at your local pub's open mic, then they're perfect representations of what you need and what you'll get!
Cuzzie
Can’t disagree, but if you know what sound works for you solo’d in a band, then it still gives some info. Sometimes something which sounds horrible solo’d is the sound you need Edited February 17, 2020 by Cuzzie
