Paul S Posted February 14, 2020 Posted February 14, 2020 I saw them around the same time and they were *unbelievable* live. Truly awesome. Roland's voice was immense and Curt's wasn't that thin. Saw them the year before last and wished I hadn't. 🙁 Quote
spectoremg Posted February 14, 2020 Author Posted February 14, 2020 Had tickets for the 2018 tour before they cancelled for unspecified health reasons - Roland seemed to be back on it quite quickly after the death of his wife. Unfortunately I couldn't make the rescheduled show. Quote
spectoremg Posted February 14, 2020 Author Posted February 14, 2020 Fairly sure Curt used his Steinberger for this album, anyone the wiser? Quote
Paul S Posted February 14, 2020 Posted February 14, 2020 He certainly did play the cricket bat in the videos. Yes, this was one of the re-scheduled shows after being cancelled first time around. Actually to say I wished I hadn't seen it was harsh as, at times, it was brilliant. Kurt's voice was probably the worst aspect - never strong it hasn't improved with age. But some surprise highs. 'Woman In Chains' was very good, the girl singing did a decent job and it isn't her fault she isn't Oleta Adams. But she actually sang 'Badman's Song better than Oleta, IMO - suited her voice. 1 Quote
Roger2611 Posted February 14, 2020 Posted February 14, 2020 I think the live performance has been shown before, if it is the same concert it was excellent! 1 Quote

steantval Posted February 15, 2020 Posted February 15, 2020 (edited) Just got in from a night out and put in on. Not impressed, weak and out of tune vocals👎 Switched over to channel 70 for horror film. Edited February 15, 2020 by steantval Quote
drTStingray Posted February 15, 2020 Posted February 15, 2020 I watched the classic album show and concert - both great and thoroughly evocative of that era. In the classic album show, they isolated a couple of the bass lines, which were very good - stated they were played on a Steinberger bass. 2 Quote
spectoremg Posted February 15, 2020 Author Posted February 15, 2020 I thought the Classic Album show was spot on. Roland and Curt looked well and plenty of input from the team involved particularly Ian Stanley who still looks 25! I have to say for such a superb album it's taken a long time for Classic Albums to get around to it. Quote
NancyJohnson Posted February 15, 2020 Posted February 15, 2020 (edited) Haven't watched it yet* but will do so later. Given how good this album actually is, it's a great pity that in these days, where the Super Deluxe Edition is championed, that they couldn't just get the Big Chair line up back together (Stanley and Elias, plus the touring guys) and do some dates. If not for vanity, do it for charity. *Edit. Watched it. While I enjoy the format of Classic Albums, I honestly do wish they'd just keep on point; I honestly couldn't care any less for the input of David Draiman (Disturbed) or John Grant ('Who are these people?' asked my wife) or to a lesser extent Oleta Adams, who had zero to do with the album itself and didn't actually come on board until two years after it came out. I find it a great pity that they didn't mention Manny Elias once either! Slack. 6/10 Edited February 15, 2020 by NancyJohnson Quote

How about that unused intro to Shout - they made the right decision there. Quote
Barking Spiders Posted February 18, 2020 Posted February 18, 2020 Damn, missed it but I think I saw the Beeb performance a year ago. I'm fine with Curt's vocals. They work really well on tunes like Pale Shelter, Change and Mad World. Have to say I prefer The Hurting to Songs, but that's still v good. Quote
