Sibob Posted February 14, 2020 Posted February 14, 2020 Just seen that Bryan Beller has reported that Mike Lull has passed away suddenly and unexpectedly. I haven’t noted this in the thread title, just as new details come through. But yes, very sad if true, clearly one of the most respected builders in the world. Si 6 Quote
Merton Posted February 14, 2020 Posted February 14, 2020 Very sad news, his basses are so well loved and respected the world over. Quote
AndyTravis Posted February 14, 2020 Posted February 14, 2020 Bloody awful. I’ve been a Lull fan since about 1997 because they were seen as part of the upper echelons of super J’s and that’s when I started playing. Owned a lull for a good while, and it was brilliant. Quote

Happy Jack Posted February 14, 2020 Posted February 14, 2020 I am SO sorry to read this. I was really hoping to meet him, perhaps at this year's NAMM, but it never happened. Quote
Silvia Bluejay Posted February 14, 2020 Posted February 14, 2020 Problem is, he wasn't at NAMM this year. We searched the exhibitor list but couldn't find him anywhere. Quote
Doctor J Posted February 14, 2020 Posted February 14, 2020 Sad news. I have never played one of his basses, but they are incredibly well respected. Quote
thodrik Posted February 14, 2020 Posted February 14, 2020 Really sad news. Never played a Lull but those T4 and T5 models were gorgeous. Quote
fiatcoupe432 Posted February 14, 2020 Posted February 14, 2020 so so sad, such a talented man! rip master Quote
Deedee Posted February 14, 2020 Posted February 14, 2020 What awful news. Today I was the lucky purchaser of @Happy Jack ‘s PT4 which should land with me early next week. Last night I was exchanging emails with the Lull company, asking questions about the model, YOM etc. 😪 2 Quote
ricksterphil Posted February 14, 2020 Posted February 14, 2020 Just read the news. Very sad! I'll be thinking of him tomorrow when playing my M4V at a gig. Thank you for the music Mike, may you rest easy in Master Luthier heaven! Quote
AndyTravis Posted February 14, 2020 Posted February 14, 2020 He was a true gent. Messaged me about the bass I pictured above personally. Made me feel part of his family- even though he didn’t owe me anything. 2 Quote
mr4stringz Posted February 14, 2020 Posted February 14, 2020 Horrible news. Have had a Lull on my wish list for a long while. Quote
IanA Posted February 14, 2020 Posted February 14, 2020 Very sad news, I have owned 3 of his basses and the necks were probably the best I have ever played. RIP Mike😢 Quote
walshy Posted February 14, 2020 Posted February 14, 2020 Sad news, had a couple of his basses. Bloody great! RIP fella Quote
therealting Posted February 14, 2020 Posted February 14, 2020 Just heard of his passing via Brian Beller. Quote
BrunoBass Posted February 14, 2020 Posted February 14, 2020 Sad news, such a presence in the bass world, his passing leaves a big space. Quote
chris_b Posted February 15, 2020 Posted February 15, 2020 This is shocking news. I'm stunned. I've been playing a Mike Lull PJ5 for 8 years and it's one of the best basses I've picked up. I've seen the guys in the shop are going to carry on. Excellent news. Quote
NancyJohnson Posted February 15, 2020 Posted February 15, 2020 6Just read this on Facebook. Awful news. I've got a pair of Lulls, profess I didn't really know about his stuff until a few years ago, but it was (on paper at least) good enough for me to move away from many Gibsons to a couple of his. Amazing basses, not once have I felt the need to move them on to get something else. Rest peacefully chap. Quote
Chiliwailer Posted February 15, 2020 Posted February 15, 2020 So sad 😞 I went to his workshop a few years back, he was a perfect host and clearly a warm and genuine guy. Just for fun, Mike was excitedly asking me to try an original 57 P Bass he was working on, which I did, but I was more excited about playing his own P Bass and the beauties hanging on the wall. I owned a few of Mike’s basses, there’s one I really shouldn’t have let go of in hindsight as I sold it for a more expensive vintage bass I couldn’t really afford, @Andy has her now RIP Mike 1 Quote
Graham Posted February 15, 2020 Posted February 15, 2020 What tragic news, thoughts with his family. The Lulls I've tried have all been astonishingly good instruments and the T pickups he designed are some of the best I've ever heard. Quote
