Dr.Dave Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 I know you can buy white plastic rod from places like Stew mac but it'll take forever to come and cost 3 times it's value in postage. I want to make new side dot markers for a fenderish fretless and wondered if anyone can think of anything available from local shops that might do the same job. Quote
Rich Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 Try a model shop? Back when I used to glue bits of plastic together as a hobby, you used to be able to get various plastic sections in lengths -- I'm pretty sure round white rods were among the available bits. Quote
Stylon Pilson Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 Gather up some sawdust and mix it with wood glue until you get a fairly thick paste. Squnge it into the holes. The wood that you get the sawdust from will dictate the colour of the dots. S.P. Quote
Al Heeley Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 Thats a neat idea, I'm just contemplating the same issue with the 'Baker at the moment. In the past I've got Dot Rods from Small Wonder Music, who also supply various inlays http://www.smallwonder-music.co.uk/shop/default.asp? I was just looking for something a bit different. Seems hardly worth it when you only want to order 6 inches of white plastic rod. Quote
Dr.Dave Posted February 6, 2009 Author Posted February 6, 2009 Thanks all - I like Rich's idea esp. because there's a really good model shop about a mile away from me. I know they do all sorts for scratch builders as well as kits. Don't know why I didn't think of it myself. Quote

If you have time on your hands, you can get the hollow metal rods from these places, and stuff them with plastic rod material or wood and make markers with metal rings. Quote
YouMa Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 You need to ask for plastic control rods for an R/C glider they will be perfect,i know because i fly em. Quote
andyonbass Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 I had a bass once with brass side dots, they showed up pretty well, but just looked like a bit of welding rod stuck in there. Being an exponent of the "improvised repair technique" (or Bodge for short), that'd do for me Quote
