Beer of the Bass
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/372808795050 These are described as "new" with no disclaimers, but that packaging doesn't look like anything made while I've been playing, and I'm 40 next year! The packet art is kind of charming in a kitschy way, but I wonder if there's much demand for NOS strings?
TheGreek
The ad reports that the strings are made by "General Music Strings", UK - I googled that company name. A company of that name went into liquidation in 2017. https://beta.companieshouse.gov.uk/company/00367243

Beedster
If something is unused I guess it's new. If that were not the case, how long would something have to sit on a shop shelf to become used? Flip side, plenty of musical instruments are well used but still sold as new, having been played over and over again by prospective buyers, but never actually bought. I guess 'new' is a bit vague both ways
binky_bass
45 year old strings, even if not applied to a bass, will likely be utterly unusable I would have though...
Beer of the Bass
If they've been stored in dry conditions they're likely to be fine, but 40+ years is definitely a little outside of normal stock rotation practices!
binky_bass
£25 for a set of 45 year old strings or £25 for a set of 2020 new strings? Can't see anyone risking it unless they buy them without realising they are older than the wheel.
Beer of the Bass
Yeah, I think they probably should make it clearer on the listing. Double bassists would bid silly money for NOS sets of Lycon or Golden Spiral strings, but old Picato tapes aren't a particularly sought-after thing AFAIK, especially when there are plenty of good tapewounds being made today.
