Bero
Have a Geddy Lee Fender, having a constant buzz problem with it, buzzing stops when tone knob turned all the way down, have checked leads, amp the lot and it happens with different amps and leads, checked all the soldered joints, Just want to know has anyone else had same problem and does anyone have a cure Its a pretty loud buzz so its not the natural noise from pick up Thanks
wateroftyne
Does it happen when both of the pickups are full on? Does it stop when you touch the strings?
Bero
Stops or eases when i touch the strings is there whatever pickups used
wateroftyne
You might find that it gets better if turn your bass 90 degrees to your amp. If so, it sounds to me like typical Fender bass hum... they all do it! If it's obtrusive at a gig, you should either shield the bass, or drop in some active pickups. Check first though - it might be inaudible at a gig.
Bero
Very audible at gigs, whats the best way to shield the bass, should be shielded already. Seems alot more than just typical fender buzz
wateroftyne
Hmm... I'd take it to a tech to check the wiring, or if you're electrically minded, check all the solder joints, etc. As for shielding.. There's info all over the internets about it. Here's an extreme example:
Buzz
My god, I'm a bastard for being this mean, but does no-one actually read the stickies? This post is even in the right subforum as the Humming and Buzzing sticky: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=194 There, read that. Do the stuff it says. Problem sorted 95% of the time.
Bero
You are that mean!! Have read this already, if you read my first post i have tried most of the stuff there so i must be in the 5% then
Low Down Dave
If it is just a single coil issue the buzzing should ease when both pickups are on full (as somebody else already mentioned) if it doesn’t, then there is an issue with either the pickup/pickups or wiring. But there are many variables and it is hard to pin down without seeing the bass, a common one is the earth wire it not touching the bridge plate, try holding a wire to the back of the volume pot to the bridge plate and see if that helps. Dave.
Jamesk86
Have you checked the output on your bass? sometimes if the jack is in and gets knocked that can casue internal damge to the output which can lead to buzzing for crackling or sometimes loss of power! Hope you get it sorted bud!
