JPJ
Anybody got any advice about applying a high gloss see-through coloured lacquer to a swamp ash body? The look I hope to achieve is a black high gloss where the grain is still visible. From the experience of my last self-build, I know that this time I will be using a proprietary grain filler (again in Black). Question is, whats the best products to use to achieve the finish I'm after? Ta
budget bassist
I once applied floor varnish to a bass with a brush. I wouldn't reccommend it!
Mikey R
I was looking at this product, never tried it tho: http://www.axminster.co.uk/product-Chestnu...cquer-19772.htm It might be better with just a couple of coats of ebony over several clear coats, to give a translucent effect. If you try this one out, let us know how you get on!
robert43
I have done it on a Jazz bass ( since sold it ) I used Minwax Wipe on Poly . I sed a rad & also have done it with a foam brush, you can use lambwool.. It takes 2/3 hours for second coat. Only thing dont used a coarse sand paper that they recommend. Al Heeley
You need to drop Wez a line via the UK Guitar Builders form, he's a master of glossy trans coatings, done some stunning work, some using tinted Rustins plastic Coating (2 part UF lacquer which is brushable) http://simnettguitars.co.uk/forum/index.php
