OLP upgrade

Picked up a cheap OLP 4 string stingray. Looking for suggestions on replacement pickups and new pots. And go!!!

I had an OLP and it wasnt too bad. It was passive though as opposed to the active stingrays.

There was a thread on talkbass by someone who was in the same boat as you.

I modded an OLP Stingray to make it active - this required some routing under the scratchplate to accommodate a battery.  If I were to do it again, I don't think I'd bother going with active and would keep it passive.

I had one of the 5 strings a while back - I think it was the Tony Levin one.   Didn't  keep it long enough to upgrade, but I thought the pickup really weak - I'd certainly have changed it for an SD or similar.  Nice looking and light weight bass though

The wiring of the OLP pickup is a bit weird - the 2 coils of the humbucker are each wired to a volume control. You'll probably end up re-wiring it or putting in a preamp.

I’d suggest a @KiOgon loom and a Warman pickup.  Do the loom first as it’s quite surprising how decent wiring & pots can make a pickup sound better.
