I modded an OLP Stingray to make it active - this required some routing under the scratchplate to accommodate a battery.  If I were to do it again, I don't think I'd bother going with active and would keep it passive.

I had one of the 5 strings a while back - I think it was the Tony Levin one.   Didn't  keep it long enough to upgrade, but I thought the pickup really weak - I'd certainly have changed it for an SD or similar.  Nice looking and light weight bass though

The wiring of the OLP pickup is a bit weird - the 2 coils of the humbucker are each wired to a volume control. You'll probably end up re-wiring it or putting in a preamp.
