Decided to sell all my cheap gear and invest in a full on American Music Man.

Always liked P basses most. So many songs I love have that P bass sound.

Taking it to band practice tomorrow but so far I’m very impressed.

seriously well made instrument.

Everything fits together so perfectly and feels so sturdy.
I’ve had fun with my Squires over the years but this is definitely a good upgrade.

Genuinely stunned how good this thing is!

I didn’t expect it to sound so much better than my other basses.

much more full low end without any boominess.

wish I’d took the plunge sooner!

I’d be interested to know what your other basses are for a bit of context.

I like a Precision, like MM (especially Stingray) but not sure about the shape of these. However the price of some examples look to have dipped. Looks like a great bass, well done on a good find.

Picked it up for £1299 at guitarguitar.

my previous basses were

Ibanez Talman 310 with Fender Yosemite precision pup

Squier Pete Wentz with Dimarzio Willpower pickup

Squier Affinity with a 70’s Dimarzio pickup.

always had cheaper basses with upgrades, was expecting only a small difference in tone as I had decent pickups before but it’s chalk and cheese.

Came here expecting preEB graphite composite content.  Was disappointed and yet another reason to be annoyed at Ernie Ball.  But yes, they do make solid instruments.  Congrats on your purchase!

Someone else on the music man Facebook group felt the same!

As a newcomer to the Ernie Ball world I don’t have the emotional investment in the old Cutlasses.

I take this for what it is, which is the nicest P bass I have ever played.

I don’t worry about what it shares a name with.

I love p basses and wouldn’t have looked twice at the original Cutlass, as great as it is, but this one, this Is what made me want a Music Man.

the old Cutlasses.

Gnnnn.  Don't get me started on the exploitation side of things.  The pointless limited editions which are increasingly about  nothing more than a paint job (and sometimes not even a special paint job), the sheeple fanboy mentality amongst forum members and now the exploitation of metatags just to pump a completely unrelated product.

Completely unrelated?

Both are basses,

both have 4 strings

both have pickups, necks and bodies

Both have tuners

both share a similar layout

both made by the same company

both are designed to make the low down groove in a band

sounds reasonably related to me 😂

And as for meta tags (I prefer to think of it as a name) I’d rather they reuse a name and keep the history alive than abandon names that have gone dormant and always use new ones.

Paying homage to those that have gone before.

Well said and congrats again on a top bass.
