Marky L
Just a quickie. The 76 P bass I picked up yesterday has the PUPs screwed down really low and the volume has suffered IMHO. I want to raise them up a bit but the guy I bought it from said I need to pad underneath the PUPs to give support. He suggested some foam material, similar to cheap earplugs. I was just wondering if there were any recommendations on what I should use and where to get it. Also, one of the bridge saddle intonation adjustment screws has been replaced with some wierd misfitting screw. Could I pick something like that up singlely from a guitar parts store? (or does anyone have an old one lurking??) M.
Al Heeley
Any old foam would be ok, from stuff used in packaging to a bit of Karrimat you lie on when you go camping. Whatever you may have lying around that is not too soft or compressable. i wouldn't, for instance, use uphostery foam rubber. Too soft and it will eventually rot down to sticky gunge. Best bet on the singe saddle adjustment screw is to send Tony at Axes R Us an email [ ] - see if he has a spare one lying round , I think it unlikely a guitar parts shop would stock a single screw. Worth asking Allparts or WD music but I think Tony is more likely to help you.

Kev
really, you can stick anything under there, provided its firm enough to support the pickup, but soft enough so that you can move it up and down as you like

rockpig
I would recommend neoprene rubber for the job, it's the stuff they make wetsuits out off and tends not to compress too badly. I've managed to get offcuts of self adhesive neoprene from shops that do foam matresses and cut to order foam before, if there's nowhere like that near you grab the allparts stuuf above they have a uk site as well http://www.allparts.uk.com/
