Frank Blank
I've been listening to some Jazz from double bass players lately so could anyone recommend me any such albums, favourites, classics, whatever you like...
paul_5
Obvious place to start would be ‘kind of blue’ by Miles Davis, in fact I’d recommend any Miles album with Paul Chambers on bass, but that’s just me. Billie Holliday’s ‘songs for distingue lovers’ is a great album too, as the mix is great, and it’s not difficult to hear what the bass is doing and how it works with everything else.

TheRev
For a more contemporary take on the classic bass/drums/piano jazz trio, check out anything by E.S.T. and GoGo Penguin. Edited March 2, 2020 by TheRev

tinyd
Anything with Christian McBride is well worth hearing. There are s couple of recent recordings with him playing with Chick Corea that are excellent, but his own bands are also really good. The Bad Plus are also great, lots of stuff on YouTube... Plus 1 - I’ve got this album! Also Avashai Cohen - Gently disturbed. There are plenty of others I haven’t listened to yet. Some good recommendations above that I will try and familiarise myself with.

Rexel Matador
I always loved Pithecanthropus Erectus by Charles Mingus. I'm no Jazz expert but it always seemed to me that you could really feel the effect of the bass player being the band leader - it has a certain stomp to it. Not a bass player led album, but Ron Carter's bass playing on Jim Hall's Concierto is a delight.

I'll look into Pithecanthropus Erectus, why Mingus has never really appeared on my radar before I don't know, thats a stupid statement, of course he's a player I know about but I haven't listened to as much. Enjoying Concierto very much, cheers.

Excellent album. You may find this of interest: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/What_Is_There_to_Say%3F As there's no chording instrument the bass stands out clearly.

The opening track is one of my favourite songs of all time, jazz or otherwise. My girlfriend used to have it set as the alarm on her phone, and despite having been wrenched awake to those opening notes every weekday for about three months, I'm still not tired of it. That slide Carter does in the opening bar is just perfect.
