hi, so I'm looking to try out some more classical stuff, I've got plenty of Bach, but I was wondering if anyone had suggestions and/or transcriptions by other classical composers?

i'll be keeping an eye out on this one. i spent years working on and working out all the little bits for Tocatta in D Minor, and it's something i'm pretty proud of ;)

in recent times i've tried to do it with a couple of other pieces and they've all fallen flat on their face pretty quickly..

Yeah, I'd be interested in having a look thanks, I'm crap a tapping tho' ;) so they'll hopefully be easy

Here you go. The Arietta in C is fairly straightforward- left hand plays the low notes and the right hand taps the high ones. Just practice each line seperately then put them together. The Pear Tree... is slightly more involved as the lines mix quite a lot- been meaning to do some kind of lesson on this for a while but never gotten round to it ;)

Both of these were transcribed on a 20 fret 4 string so should be playable on most basses.

Let me know how you get on.

Check out some Bottesini, beautiful pieces for solo bass (mostly arco) with piano accompaniment.
Cd's and sheet music will be readily available, but the pieces are largely slow and sparse enough to figure out yourself! ;)

You might want to check the list HERE.

Not always entirely accurate
(due to being user posted)
but you can sort them out.

Hey, is it OK to bump old threads? I didn't want to start a new one. I downloaded these files when you posted them (I was a lurker back then) and I recently found the printed versions in my room. Got playing these two songs again and got addicted to tapping.

So, I was wondering does anybody have any songs like these two? Thanks. :)

PS - Good job with the tab, btw.

I have a book coming out early next year called 'Solo Arrangements for Electric Bass' which contains my arrangement of Beethoven's 'Fur Elise'. You can read about the book under the Coming Soon section at the Bassline Publishing website (www.basslinepublishing.com). I'll try to get a video of this piece done soon so you can check it out.

Sure you've looked into it, but if you like tapping, then Stuart Hamm did a few classical arrangements for bass that were excellent. I can point you in the direction of a tracnscription of 'Prelude in C' if you're interested.

Hope that helps

Have a look at

http://www.doublebass-solo.com/

This small publishing house is run by Keith Hartley who was my first double bass teacher (42 years ago).
He has been one of the top London players for most of his life, mainly at Covent Garden (Royal Opera House).
The Double Bass Solo books are excellent as they are based on well known melodies transcribed for DB.

I often use these books with my students and can highly recommend them.
