Convert TE combo to head and cab - sacrilege?

If you're in two minds about it the reversible option is the way to go i.e. rehouse the head but leave the carcass as is so you can slot it back in when you want to.

Congrats on still being able to lift it though. I'd be able to lift it up but leaning to put it into the car and my back would be knackered. 😩

Do it. Over the last couple of years I have taken a few TE heads out of combos and built cases or installed them in 19 inch racks. It makes classic old gear portable and usable. I use my Trace heads with Barefaced or Vanderkley lightweight neo cabs, they sound superb (better than original combos!) I do not like butchering classic gear, but you can keep combo cabs to retrofit in future if you feel the need and have the space!

There is a very limited market for heavy old Trace cabs whereas the heads stiill seem very popular (especially with me!)

Good luck.

In my mind trying to make something into something it's not often ends up in a fail.

Most of my hobbies involve trying to make something into something it isn't. :-)

This would be pretty straightforward - fit head in a 17" rack unit, cut top off cab, re-cover top, fit jack socket on the back. Nothing that will affect sound or performance.
