Steve Woodcock Posted March 10, 2020 Posted March 10, 2020 For anyone thinking they've left it too late to take learning an instrument seriously, take encouragement from this: I have recently taken on a student who is 96. 17 1 Quote

Paul S Posted March 10, 2020 Posted March 10, 2020 A couple of years ago my neighbour bought a new boat. He has sailed all his life and thought he'd treat himself. He then decided to get the bottom 'coppered' as, in the long term, it is better value. He was just 87 at the time. Now 94 1 Quote
mikel Posted March 10, 2020 Posted March 10, 2020 Saw Focus in December. Pierre van der Linden was superb. One of the most accurate, skillful and hard hitting drummers I have seen, and I always liked hard driving music. They played for 2 hours 20 minutes and were superb. He never missed a beat and did a 10 minute full on solo. He is 74. 5 Quote
odysseus Posted March 10, 2020 Posted March 10, 2020 Excellent. Utmost respect! Way better than rotting in front of Cash In The Attic. 🤘 1 Quote
lownote Posted March 10, 2020 Posted March 10, 2020 This week I was asked to photograph legendary tenor saxist Art Themen. Awesome musician. 81. 2 Quote
Balcro Posted March 10, 2020 Posted March 10, 2020 I hope I'm as involved as guys from that generation. Once a week I volunteer to teach general computing / internet etc., to old folks. There's one guy there, 94 & very deaf, who last year was trying Audacity and has now switched to learning Excel despite macular degeneration. 2 Quote
MacDaddy Posted March 11, 2020 Posted March 11, 2020 Marshall Allen is still leading the Sun Ra Arkestra, at a sprightly 95 years of age. 1 Quote
ambient Posted March 11, 2020 Posted March 11, 2020 I was teaching someone who was 80. He stopped having lessons though after deciding to concentrate on his drumming instead. 1 Quote
Stippy Posted March 11, 2020 Posted March 11, 2020 Blimey, Good Luck to him, thought I was old at 55 ..! 1 Quote
burno70 Posted March 11, 2020 Posted March 11, 2020 I think he's awesome and exactly the kind of old boy I want to be. Still enthusiastic to try new things and keeping active. Quote
PatrickJ Posted March 11, 2020 Posted March 11, 2020 (edited) If his goal is to try and impress and pick up the chicks at the retirement home I hope he went for lead guitar and not bass!! Edited March 11, 2020 by PJ-Bassist 1 Quote

TheMaartian Posted March 12, 2020 Posted March 12, 2020 I just stopped by the local music store yesterday to hire an instructor to help me with my muting techniques, among other things. I was feeling pretty old at 68, until I was told that the student before me was just starting. At 81. I left feeling a bit younger. Time to fix the intonation on the A string on my SR. Quote
Steve Woodcock Posted March 25, 2020 Author Posted March 25, 2020 Interesting that the general assumption is the student is male! She's actually an accomplished psychologist and author, with her next book coming out in May! Truly inspirational and I can only hope to be a switched on as her if I ever reach such an age. 2 Quote
