Cantdosleepy
Electronica, acoustic artists, glitchcore, sample-based hip-hop, stripped-down Rock'n'roll, synthpop; oh yes indeed, if no-one's let a bass guitar anywhere near it I'm happy as Larry. Favourite sans-bass artists: Fourtet White Stripes Acoustic songs by Neutral Milk Hotel Yeah Yeah Yeahs Venetian Snares Bon Iver The Cool Kids Dälek Share your awesome music-with-no-bass-that-includes-no-upright-bass here! risingson
Totally with you on Four Tet. Also love Burial, Boards of Canada, Cobblestone Jazz (all the bass done on a Roland SH-101), M83, Modeselektor... all generally sampled parts or synthesised bass parts! What I like is trying to capture the quantised feel of synthesised bass and doing it yourself on bass instead. It's a lot of fun
Cantdosleepy
I like Boards too. Will have to check out some of those other names. Have you heard of Jojo Mayer? He's a session drummer who play jungle on acoustic kits. Great stuff. I agree that making bass sound nonhuman can be very enjoyable.

risingson
Yeh I like Jojo Mayer, he's done what I want to do but on drums, basically. Technically great as well. As for the Boards of Canada, they're my favourite of all time. Absolutely stunning music. I don't know how much you like house and minimal and whatnot but Cobblestone Jazz are great, as is Ricardo Villalobos. Nice to meet another bass player with similar taste in non-bass related music! Haha

The Bass Doc
I thought good but listening to the final mix I reckon he thought bad
Cantdosleepy
I'm not massively into my house and minial - I tend to like things a little 'breakier.' Will check out the above, though.

Boneless
I like music, with or without bass. But I feel like there must be an instrument doing the "low" stuff, be it an octaved guitar, a synthesizer, a tuba, farts, or whatever Electro-pop-new wave wouldn't have been the same without synth bass

BigRedX
I would say that at least half the music I like these days hasn't had a bass guitar anywhere near it. Try: Styrofoam, Plus-Tech Squeezebox Kid Carpet Ladytron Aoki Takamasa & Tujiko Noriko Junior Boys Efterklang

Bassassin
Dresden Dolls were one of my favourite bands of the last few years, & unlike most of their too-kool-for-skool bassless contemporaries, they genuinely didn't need it - having a phenomenal pianist & an even phenomenaler drummer. Jon.
redzombie
I love Winnebago Deal, but they sounded so much better when Nick Oliveri stepped in to play bass with them. White Stripes can be okay at times too, at least the stuff I heard years ago was. Edited February 11, 2009 by redzombie
clauster
Several of my favourites don't have bass. Top of the list for the last few years has been the Black Keys.
