Linus27
I hate it, with their whinging and moaning and complaining about every other tom dick and harry. Plus that stupid man at the back with his guitar on his lap sliding a can of beer up and down the strings sounding like a cat giving birth. Don't they see he's just a lazy arse that can't be bothered to stand up like a real guitarists. Oh, and whats with all the tassles, boots and cowboy hats? Surely, nobody here likes country music here

Deep Thought
I don't mind a bit of Johnny Cash, and some of the lyrics can be hilarious, but on the whole it doesn't do a lot for me.

Hamster
In it's purest form it's a bit like American folk music, but the Country & Western spewed out now is just so much pop fodder
chris_b
Country is a wide definition these days so blanket statements like this are pretty silly. Steve Earl is country and I think He's great!! Only Martians hate country!

rbatts2000
I think it's the fact that most C&W songs sound identical that I dislike it so much. Although that's probably also the reason I love the blues so much. Hmm, I think I've just out-argued myself! OK, how about these reasons for disliking Country and Western music?

The whiny voice that accompanies every song
The cowboy hats

Can't fault the hats. Maybe its the fact that we don't like to listen to men crying like girls in our music.
Buzz
Shania Twain, or is that too pop country? Dolly Parton, Joleen, 9 till 5? Jonny Cash...nuff said. On the whole it does seem a bit stale at times, but most of the western views of country music is pretty much American country music. xgsjx
Most cuntry music is the same old bollo*s as the last one, but there is one or two that are gems, but that is literally ONE or TWO! My singer is Canadian & we have an AltDot band & he's tried introducing a couple of cuntry style songs to us that he's written & we end up trying to make it as uncuntry as much as we can. I go to Vegas nearly every December & they have the rodeo on (another pile of crap) & all you get is cuntry music with cowboy hats & tassles & we get thrown out of casinos for taking the mick. Good fun indeedy I do like Steve Earl tho, Copperhead Road is a great album. shitnia twain I can't stand!
Mr Fudge
I don't know if I know exactly what country music is. I have and do enjoy people like Lyle Lovett, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Johnny Cash. One of the last albums I purchased was the best of George Jones. Some of the greats have done some superb country stuff. Have a listen to Gram Parsons and The Byrds "sweetheart of the rodeo. I not defending all the bullshit that is obviously out there though.

Linus27
Shania Twain would get it. I wonder would would happen if you cross Shain Twain country pop with 3 chord guitar pop? I am willing to find out if needed
BigBeefChief
Well I like country. It's one of the few genre's where I can listen yo most of it. OK, not like all of it, but at least sit through it. It's so much better than that shouty music about shitting on nuns, or that music-for-pretentious-w***ers Jazz. risingson
Probably one of the most misunderstood genres of music, and also probably the most listened to at the same time. The country music business is absolutely massive. These threads have been amusing and actually have generated fun convo, I'm liking it!
