Have a close up look at the wear on the neck plate, I am trying to work out what kind of normal wear and tear would create the plethora of spiral scratches on the chrome, it's almost as if someone attacked it with a drill for some unknown reason! perhaps it was a recognised cleaning method back in 76!

I like how the inside face has got all scratched up, the neck screws must've been left a little loose to get that sort of movement. 😆

So what happened to the rest of the guitar?

When the drill slipped off the neck plate it took out the rest of the guitar with it:tatice_03:

If you imagine for a minute, that was fitted to a guitar, what kind of groin action would produce that sort of wear and tear?

The scratches could be because it's been in a parts box, but it must've been used as a base for drilling or something to get those marks.

An alternative could be if it's been used to prop up a table leg with an adjustable height screw thing, or maybe a vise or other clamp...

(But a vintage Fender neck plate isn't the first thing I'd reach for to do that...)
