Veils
He is after buying an aerodyne jazz, but I can't help but feeling he will get better for his money. I told him I am willing to drive him somewhere nearby at weekend like Manchester or Sheffield (I live in buxton), so does anyone know of any good deals to be had for £600? I am pretty sure he wants to stick to the Fender route or something similar. Any ideas welcome
lowhand_mike
hmm, if you are lucky you might be able to find a ray for about that second hand, i picked mine up in manchester for 650 (years ago now) or possibly a sub as they have been discontinued so you might get a bargin. warwickhunt
Is there nothing on Basschat? (selfless plug) I have a 91 Fender USA stack-knob Jazz reissue available for £575 (£1200 if you want a new one), with the P&P that would hit his budget spot on! Pics here. OutToPlayJazz
Fender Geddy Lee Jazz from Thomann.de @ £588. Postage is free. Got mine last week
P-T-P
Yeah, loads of bass to be had for £600, especially if second hand is an option. Bet there's loads of choice in the way of US jazz and p-bass for a start. Possibly MMan and Warwick Streamer BO models. Definitely Warwick Corvette's second hand, in fact I think could get a new Corvette for £600. Could have a new Yamaha TRB from Thomann for that kinda cash too. And if he's after an Aerodyne, why is he spending £600 when you can get one of the Jap imports from somewhere like Guitar Emporium for about £400? Thinking about it, don't tell him that last bit, go an buy one yourself, sell it to him for £600 and give me half the profit

G-bitch
I'd agree with all the above (man it's nice that you guys know your sh*t - I remember the first ever incarnation of this forum about 5 years or so ago and there weren't really many people bringing the knowledge!). BTW - Phone around all the shops and check what's in stock because you can take trips to music shops all day long, in all areas and half the time won't find a damn thing you want to try. Although that may just be me on the esoteric end of things. Have him try out the various Fenders and MM etc. and point out that second-hand is best value - plus given the level of QC with MM and (Jap/US) Fenders then you can't really go wrong. Try and establish his preferences in terms of neck profile/finish and sound he's after as well as the look that does it - might help you think of alternatives that no-one will have in stock but can try out via mail order or something. skywalker
Just Music in Loughborough has a Jazz which he will get for less than 400. The guy beats me over the head about it every time I go in. He has also got some nice Yammy's
bassbloke
A mate of mine walked into Soundcontrol Oxford Street and handed over £575 for an export model Aerodyne. It was one of those scenarios where had he asked first I'd have told him where to go to pick up a, IMHO, more attractive non-export model for around £100 less.
