hatori
Played at Fagins in Taffs Well in Wales last night and at the end had a really nice conversation with this short guy dressed all in denim with long dark hair. We talked about valve amps ,particularly Marshall majors of which it transpires he has a couple. So I say 'so you must be a bass player' at which he smiles and says yes. He went on to say some nice things about my band while I continued packing up. My guitarist comes over and says 'thats Burke and I say 'no he's a really nice guy'.......guitarist says 'no you twirp thats Burke Shelley'...then the penny dropped!! I went back over to him while he was signing autographs and apologised. In case you are wondering Burke Shelley is (still) the bass player for Budgie!! I wish I had a marker pen, he would have signed my Thunderbird. I shall never live that down!! Next time we go there I shall be penned up......that made my day. Deep Thought
Now that bloke can sing and play bass at the same time! I was rather pleased to be compared to him at one of our gigs a while ago. Outrageously underrated. Cool that you got to meet him and he was a nice bloke.
Bilbo
My wife once met Francis Rossi at a theatre and went up to him and said 'Hi, Rik'. She then slagged off the play only to find out his daughter was in it
OldGit
Burke and me hang out He is very nice, even to people who have no idea who he is He also has the ability to play the same £50's worth of cash converter sh*te gear we all play (at the jam sessions we hang out at) and make it sound better than classic vintage gear, without changing any settings . Man's a genius ...

Paul S
I believe they must have been going without a pause since the early 70s? That's when I saw them. Make a lot of noise for three blokes. Zoom Club has to have one of the infectious riffs ever.

Noisyjon
Got to admit I didn't know his name but my God do I know the song Breadfan, what a cracker. It was Metallica that turned me onto them with their version. Rock and indeed Roll!
NancyJohnson
Good post. I saw Budgie several times in the 70s and (I think the early 80s); they have long since dropped off my musical radar. Time for a visit to Amazon I think. P
Jase
First 3 albums with the original line up are just superb! The drummer in the video, Ray Phillips....great player then and still is now!
KevB
One of the first proper rock bands I ever saw, supporting Gillan in 1981. Feeling quite ancient now...
Jase
I Saw them on their Deliver Us From Evil Tour in Cardiff students Union, Burke Shelley, John Thomas and Steve Williams. I'm wondering if the P bass he uses now is the one from the early days.
