We called legs like that 'wednesday legs' back in the day, don't know if expressions like that are still around.

'wednesday gonna snap?'

Now this could be tricky. Undeniably beautiful craftmanship doesn't always produce a thing of beauty.

This. None of the basses in the first post strike me as particularly beautiful.

There is a green Alembic Essence in Reverb that looked nice and compact.

This one, I guess :

Think most of the basses posted already come in the most interesting looking basses group 😁.

I also think that sometimes you have to see and if possible hold something in person to really enjoy its form. As these instruments posted are often like or are a form of art.

What is the second to last one? They’re all beautiful but that one is the prettiest imho.

I always thought this was such an incredible instrument, in the way it completely defied all the traditional ways to look at a bass.

It was made by a Swiss luthier named Claude Pagelli in the 1990s. There's some information about it on his website

http://www.pagelli.com/e-guitars-innovations.html

Look for "Golden Fretless". He also has some nice close up shots of the instrument.

Ironically, I mainly play Fender or that style of instrument, which I love, and I'm woeful on fretless, despite numerous attempts at trying to master it! :D

Can't agree more, the Pagelli Golden Fretless is to me, with the Ibanez AFR, the most beautiful bass ever. Wanted to put the photo last night, but went to bed, you know sometimes there's a calling...

Art for art's sake?

I'm pretty sure they are every bit as functional as any other bass, and there are videos of them on YouTube, and they sound pretty damn good to me. Personally, I find these designs far more interesting and aesthetically compelling than the typical bass designs that's just a minor variation on what Leo Fender designed more than half a century ago.
