niceguyhomer
It's the law - every bass player has to watch that - even though I have it on DVD and even though I've watched it 20 times already, I'll be watching it.
Hamster
The Stax Story DVD is also pretty good

[/quote] Why? i've tried watching it, but couldn't be arsed, don't know if I ended up somewhere in the middle of it... But I'll try it for second time, as I'm going to see Motown tribute band next weekend... I'll get my coat now. bass_ferret
Bugger - missed it again. Lucky I've got Standing on DVD for ad-hoc worship. Anyone who does not dig Jamerson or Duck is not a real bass player IMO.
acidbass
Wow, that was an absolutely fantastic watch. I got a lend of the DVD recently only to find out that the region wasn't supported on my DVD player - boy was I missing out!
Hamster
If anyone has an accurate tab of Heatwave the way Mr Babbitt plays it then I for one would be very very happy to have it!

I'd only ever seen the film in part before - I was knocked out by Bob Babbit. Q for the more anoraky of us - I could see he was using a foam mute by the bridge but because of it I couldn;t make out the bridge itself. Didn't look like the stock Fender bridge from what I could see. Any ideas?

iamthewalrus
Saw the documentary about the '64 UK Tour, was absolutely amazed that it was so poorly attended, considering the talent that was on the bill. They don't write stuff like that anymore - nearest I've heard to anything of that quality is the Rapahel Saadiq track they've been playing on Radio 2. Long live 60's Soul (The Flame Keeps on Burning - yeah I know that's associated with Northern Soul...) Cheers, iamthewalrus
KennysFord
Imagine my joy this morning when BGM drops through the letter box to find they're doing a Motown article and bassline transcription.Of all the great and wonderful Jamerson lines they could/should have done they pick "your precious love". WTF !!!

molan
I saw the Funk Brothers at the RFH when they plaed here about 4-5 years ago. Great gig all round & definitely the most celeb audience I can remember (outside of an awards show!). I'm seriously thinking of going over to Detroit to have a look at what's left over there & maybe zip down to Cleveland for the Rock museum as well. risingson
Our drummer went to Hitsville, he's a massive Motown fan. He said that if you clap inside the reverb chamber, the resonance is instantly recognisable as Motown reverb.
