But i've been growing increasingly bemused by it. Firstly the pickups seem to say status on them but upside-down, which seems slightly odd as it's not mentioned in the item description. Also it may just be me but the body looks too new to be '78, i'd expect it to be a more creamy coloured. Another thing is the fretboard seems to be oddly worn along the edges, almost like it's been sanded down. The seller states it as all original which clearly isn't the case but just thought it would be interesting to post it here to see what you guys think. Quote
Ou7shined Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 There is a lot of fret-ware so I guess it the neck could be genuinely aged but how he can tell the neck is pukka by putting one string on it is utter gash. Quote
simon1964 Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 The pickguard should be black on a 78 I think? Other than that (and the pickup obviously) I think it looks genuine from the pictures. The rust on the screws and string trees suggest its genuine - its pretty hard to fake that convincingly. Quote
Delberthot Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 (edited) I can see where you guys are going wrong - it actually a '1978 Fender bass percussion'. That would explain the state of the side of the neck - its been used to perform rim shots on a huge drum. (please note that this is a drumming term and not some perverse sexual practice) Jeez, it looks like someone's been trying to gnaw away at the edge of the neck Edited February 18, 2009 by Delberthot Quote
skankdelvar Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 There's 'Mojo', there's 'Reliced' and there's just plain shabby. Poor old bass. Needs a nice home. But not mine. Quote
Ou7shined Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 Now I've had a better look at it, it looks to me like it has been lying under water (or in a very leaky shed). The corrosion on the knobs, the rusty as hell tuners and that neck, it isn't chewed - some liquid has leached under the finish - see under the varnish back of the headstock too. Quote
Ou7shined Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 Apparently 700 quids worth (incl P&P) of firewood! Quote
Hamster Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 Ouch! (both for the condition of the bass, and the price paid for it!) Quote
