matt_citizenbass Posted February 21, 2009 Author Posted February 21, 2009
Isn't there all the routing? Assuming it's a Fender!
nah, its just an empty pickup hole which i had anyway. i'll upload some pics later! and also, i don't have to get pretencious and print t-shirts and stuff, i know i'm the worlds greatest bass player...or so my mummy tells me. Tim Commerford also did it and he's cooler than beans. Quote
Tait Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 (edited) pictures? i want to see your jazz anyway, it looks cool in your avatar but i can't really see it properly. EDIT: ooh i found you're gear porn thread, its a great looking bass! but i always thought it was purpley maroony, not black. black looks better anyway. Edited February 22, 2009 by LWTAIT Quote

Boneless Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 Well, he is! Great player, but a total dickhead C'mon, fellas, that "I'm cooler than you" attitude of his is soooooooooooooooooooooo annoying and obnoxious Quote
dave_bass5 Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 when i swapped necks over last year i left the scratch plate off my HW1 jazz. I did mean to get the holes filled in but in the end i just stopped playing it so put the scratch plate back on. Quote

budget bassist Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 Haha, you guys should have seen what was going on under the scratchplate on my old reggie jazz, practically hollow! Quote
Tracer Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 There's some really weird routing underneath the scratch plate of my jazz (2005 US). There's a lot of routing around the pickup, and then a hole below and forward of it. Just a hole. No tracks to wiring to anywhere else and a really stupid place to put a control. I always assumed it was somewhere to hide your crack, because I can't think of any other reason for it. Quote

Especially as the cheaper HW1s don't seem to have that routing as dave_bass has shown. Quote
james_d Posted March 21, 2009 Posted March 21, 2009 Anyone else think that Fender Jazz basses look better with the scratch plate on? I think they look weird without them, plus there are screw holes everywhere. You should try playing bass with one string actually. I bet there are a few songs out there that only use the 1 string or that can be transposed. Quote

sub-a-dub Posted March 25, 2009 Posted March 25, 2009 ....maybe it depends on the bass - sunburst or natural finish with a nice grain looks good without the scratchplate, don't some of the pickguards look cheap/poorly finished also? Mind you, it's a toss-up as to which looks better: a 3TS with or without a t/shell plate... The jury is out on that one as far as I'm concerned... I built a 62RI fretless recently and had to think long and hard about the scratchplate. I almost reluctantly put one on to avoid possible accusations of building a Jaco clone, but as the finish and grain on the sunburst alder body were so beautiful and unmarked I left it off in the finish. There is a kind of abstract image of the bass in my profile - gives a general idea of the smooth uncluttered lines etc... I have a spalted maple jazz that came with a plexi pickguard and off that came as well, but I have a couple of Olympic whites' and there is no way in hell the t/shell puckguards would ever come off those babies!! Guess it's all a matter of taste... Regards, Sean Quote
