warwickhunt Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 ... without the pickguard on? Are there any routs underneath the guard that prevent removing it? Any owners with pics of a DJ sans guard? Quote

Just as an aside; has anyone swapped pups on their DJ and got recordings of before and after? Obviously pup selection makes a difference in a bass but I've known some basses where it makes a bigger difference than it does in others. Quote
mr_russ Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 Ah that's a shame - it's all pretty tidy but the neck pickup rout is about 5 mm each side larger than the pickup itself. I quite like the look of the DJ without a pickguard - Juan Alderete of mars volta has a nice white usa dj4 guardless. Quote

I'm just about to remove the Lindy Fralins that came in it and install some Aeros that arrived from Hawaii yesterday, to get it back to stock. I have no means of recording anything however. Quote

I know that sounds vague but I've swapped pups on Warwicks in the past and I had a Stage I that sounded exactly the same (to the human ear) no matter whether it had EMG MEC or Barts. A bit odd I know but it was the same when I swapped MECs in a Warwick Infinette for Wizard Overwounds, the difference should have been noticeable but it was a very subtle difference YET I've swapped pups in Jazz basses quite a few times and the difference is always audible... I'm wondering if the BO v NT difference could have something to do with it? Anyway! I'm just thinking out loud and asking if people have noticed 'big' differences when they've swapped out Lakkie pups or is the difference very subtle? Quote

mr_russ Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 I reckon the lakland pickups are excellent anyway - although I still have a thing for the active EMG jazz pickups Quote
