Col
Fred T. Baker on you tube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EAdh0rKYnXk Did a great solo album "Bassically Speakin'" in the late eighties, anyone know any more? The Funk
Did a week at the Guildhall Jazz & Rock Summer School in '95. Fred 'Thelonius' Baker was one of the teachers. Great player!
aj5string
Taught me at Birmingham Conservatoire... is really worth checking out 'double up' a duo album he recorded and missing link; a solo album of his. He is an amazing player, and a really nice person. Check out 'Second Sight' here; http://www.myspace.com/davidwilliamsguitar Its mine and a guitarists version of a tune he recorded - and was very hard work :-)
gafbass02
He was my bass tutor at Barnsley college but was always on tour so sadly I never got any one to one tuition. Buthe did blow us all away with a solo show one day.
Hamster
I've pretty sure I've seen him playing with John Etheridge a few times - superb feel and playing.
Dubs
He taught me at Derby Uni for a couple of years. Amazing player, but could talk the face off a donkey Top bloke.
burno70
Same here Ben, he taught me at Derby Uni too. He's an awesome player and genuinely a nice guy but I found him frustrating as a teacher.
yorks5stringer
I was chatting to Single Bass at a gig maybve 10 years ago and she was singing his praises, I think he may have taught her too ( I 've a strong sense of deja vue about this thread and not CSNY!) OutToPlayJazz
I had a couple of 'lessons' with Fred in the late 80's at South East Derbyshire College. Even then he was an amazing player, but at the time his idea of a bass lesson was to take your bass off you and play it at you for half an hour. He did introduce me to "The Literate Bassist", though. Great book & a pity it's out of print now. Lovely guy, though! Best of luck to him Rich.
