Mr Cougar
Alright Chaps, I want to pep-up the tonal range of my P Bass, thought I might stick in the EMG replacement pickups/active tone circuits. Has anyone got any other ideas/experience with these. Any other suggestions as to what might be good and what type of sounds I'll get? I'd suggest having a search through the forum for something like "replacement Precision pickups" or something. Good luck.
neepheid
I've got an EMG-P ready to put into my current project, but I haven't fired it up yet so I can't comment on it. It's very convenient that they're intrinsically active, no circuit boards to mount. You do have to find somewhere to stash a 9V battery of course! I'm fitting a battery box to mine, but if you don't want to take the router to your pride and joy then you'll have to stash it in the control cavity somewhere... and one of these might help stop it rattling around in there - http://www.allparts.uk.com/catalogue/produ...oducts_id=11364 Hope that helps. Jean-Luc Pickguard
My EMG P pickup sounded a bit weak with 9v compared to to the mighty punch you get running it on 18v by connecting a pair of betteries in series. I've gone back to the stock fender pickup since though.
steve-soar
What? a bit weak? Mine sounds very strong. However, it sounds NOTHING like a good Precision pup in the way that there are all of those lovely overtones and bark, it's louder and has more bass. I'd strongly suggest a rewind as I have now come to realise I personally prefer the sound of passives in a Precision.
steve-soar
Oh bum, could have sold mine to you.
Mr Cougar
At the moment it's got some of those Basslines pickups on it, I'm not sure which ones since they were on it when i bought it, the otehr option would be to find a set that mimic the originals as closely as possible, there's just something i don't like about the bass lines ones. Any suggestions, I don't have the originals?? Thanks so far everyone.
