ebenezer
I have had all three pots replaced on my 79 stingray because they were so worn and noisy.....Now, is it possible to get the old pots rebuilt ?
Lfalex v1.1
(Not an expert) Presumably it's possible if you can open up the old pots and replace the tracks and wipers using parts of the correct value... You'd likely have to scavenge those from new pots that you'd bought and dismantled. Someone might be willing to do it. I presume you want to preserve it's originality? Consider this, though; were you buying a classic car, would you expect it to have the same tyres and exhaust as when it rolled out of the factory? Have you cleaned the offending potentiometers with a contact cleaner? If so, did it work?
itu
If the tracks are alive, yes. Well, if the gliders are also well. Then some contact cleaner and lots of turning. Sometimes you have to open the cases and tighten the gliders. Not a job someone else would do, as it takes time (= money) but is very simple task. Dan Dare
Pots are so cheap, it just wouldn't be worth the effort. I kept the pots from my old J when I replaced them just in case a purchaser might want them if I ever sell it (or when my daughter does after I croak).

Bassassin
A healthy dose of Servisol lubricated switch cleaner has revived dozens of scratchy old pots on instruments I've worked on. As long as they work to an extent beforehand and aren't mechanically damaged, it will get rid of most unwanted crackles & buzzes. Cheap stuff so it doesn't hurt to have a can sitting around in case you need it.
ubit
I have am Aerodyne that is beautiful in every way apart from the fact that it crackles when I change volume. It drives me mad. This thread helps me to realise I have hope without going to an expensive Luthier. Edited April 29, 2020 by ubit
