Just been looking through the Marketplace and there seems to be a few Telecasters and/or parts thereof available suggesting Teles have a following. I have a Tele with Bigsby which I don't use but love the look of.... So what is the favoured skinny stringed weapon of choice amongst Bassists? My weapon of choice would be the above, if cash allowed. My actual weapons are: Squier Telecaster (very customised, only the neck, tuners, and p/g remain). Epiphone Casino Coupé with added Bigsby. I've always said that if I was a serious guitarist, the two instruments I'd definitely have would be a nice Tele and a Parker Fly. adamg67 Posted April 19, 2020 Share Posted April 19, 2020 I picked up a Paul Reed Smith S2 Custom 24 a couple of years ago and that’s not going anywhere. The S2 is made in the US factory, same quality but without the carved top and a few other minor things, so a bit cheaper than the crazy priced “core” PRS. Much much better than the (Korean I think? Or Chinese) factory made PRS SE series - I traded one of those for the S2. It’s just like this in fact: https://www.peachguitars.com/prs-s2-custom-24-elephant-grey.htm (that’s the new price, I didn’t pay anything like that) Plays just amazingly, sounds awesome, looks better than a Strat or LP and for me beats anything at the same price and a lot of things at a lot more. Lozz196 Posted April 19, 2020 Share Posted April 19, 2020 (edited) Fender MIM 72 Telecaster Deluxe, has two humbuckers and I think a 12” radius which makes it very easy to play. Fenders take on a Les Paul really, does the same sort of job but in a Fendery way. I’ve tried Gibsons & Epiphones but although I love the sound I just don’t play them very well, I find it much easier with Fender necks. howdenspur Posted April 19, 2020 Share Posted April 19, 2020 Got two 6 strings, a Squier Fat Strat (HSS) and a PRS SE Singlecut. Both nice guitars, the PRS has a slightly wider neck which attracts, though I think I'm probably a single coil guy. There are other guitars I want, but realistically, unless I get a sudden urge to be the next Steve Vai or start a death metal band the two teles cover everything I'll ever need to do on a guitar. casapete Posted April 19, 2020 Share Posted April 19, 2020 I have a Fender Baja Tele which is ace. Had a few Teles over the years and this one is the best, and very light (under 7lbs). I love big necks on guitars, so the others I have all feature them too - 1959 Gibson Les Paul Junior, Fender Strat 57RI and a cherry Gibson 335. I've owned a few IC's of different years, a 1978 IC200, a 1980 IC50, a mid 90's IC300. Along with a few Ibanez Artist's from the late 70's. I've also owned a few Tokai Love Rock's (Les Paul clones). Bought in preference to a Fylde acoustic that I could have had instead. For many years my favourite guitar Late '90's Ibanez RG470L. Bit of a one-trick pony soundwise but a lovely guitar to play. Cost me around £450 and paid me back many times over . '84 Gibson 335 dot. Cherry red. Fabulous guitar, made at a time when Gibson were the ones to beat. Pretty sure I've never actually played 'Johnny B. Goode' on it... '13 Custom Tele set neck, made for me by Rob Williams. Also available to view over on Guitarchat. '18 Faith Mercury parlour guitar. Quality and tone out of all proportion to its relatively modest price (I think I paid a little over £700 for it). My current favourite guitar. Ca. '00 Epiphone Les Paul set neck (project). Currently in a state of disassembly. I keep promising myself I'll get round to putting it together and getting it working. The one I'd like back most is the wine Les Paul standard with the premium plus top, or the 80's Ibanez Roadstar RG440 - that was lovely! Currently have 4 variations on the tele (CIJ 62 reissue, Rick Parfitt style partscaster and 2 Esquire partscasters), a Gibson Les Paul Studio, 6 and 12 string acoustics.
