xilddx
Anyone seen "Brain's Lessons" - Brian Mantia's drum tutorial DVD? There's some damn funky drums on there, the gogo beat stuff is awesome too.

Dmanlamius
Actually, scrap that. For some reason it's only playing parts of the songs now. Deezer used to play all. Heartbroken. I loved that playlist...

The Funk
Well, I think in the later stages of the funk movement a lot of musicians got lazy and decided it was enough to rely on a great bassline and not much else when it came to their tunes. I still love almost all of it but I think funk as a genre rarely reached its potential in terms of songwriting or arrangements. Two funk songs which I think set a pretty high standard (they both build slowly so give them a chance): Stevie Wonder's Jesus Children Of America (don't let all the Jesus-ness put you off) Curtis Mayfield's Right On For The Darkness http://www.last.fm/music/Curtis+Mayfield/_...or+the+Darkness
leschirons
No need to slap, leave tons of space and move in to the drummer's house. That's the team. Forget the rest of the band.
