roller rack

looking to buy 3 or 4U roller rack; one of the two wheeled, extendable handle, suitcase type. It is to put my fafner in so I can wheel it to and from the tube station.

Where is the best (and cheapest) place to buy something like this?

That sux mate, i am after one too, tho i am looking for something i can take on the road and will last, i have a few intrests BUT never seen any decent ones under £60

Also remember that some roller racks don't allow very much in the lowest rack space because of the wheels/handle so you may need 1 more U than a normal rack to get all your gear in.

got one, looks like you are right about the lower space, but I bought one bigger so it is ok, just might not be able to fit a tuner in above my amp.

[b]New problem[/b]: cant for the life of me get all 4 screws to line up, 2 fine, third with a little trouble but I cannot get a fourth in, I am at the point of almost stripping screws, Obviously 3 will hold my amp but is there something I am doing wrong to explain my in ability to screw all four in

What make of rack is it, and what are the units that you're trying to fit in it?

In theory 19" racks are built the same within certain tolerances. However when the rack and the unit are at opposite ends of the spec sometimes it won't all fit together.

Second thought: Is your amp particularly heavy? Maybe it needs supporting at the back of the rack as well (or at least until you have all the screws in).

it is a gator rack and an EBS fafner, I am doing it on its end so the amp wont need supported cos gravity aint screwing the alignment. I think it is just tolerance issues.

It's an ABS plastic rack?

Try squeezing the sides together to see if that sorts it out.

I'd screw in the amp on one side only, and then with the case up against a wall or some other immovable object push the other side inwards until the holes in the rack strip line up with those on the rack ears of the amp. I've had to do this with metal-lined plywood cases in the past. Once you've got all the screws in the tension will hold everything tightly in place.

It is possible that you are trying to do what the maufacturer has not designed it for.

The U system is based on 1 3/4 inch units and the screw hole distances varies between 1U, 2U and 3U. The rack flanges accommodate this with slightly different hole spacings between different sets of holes, so if you have fixed holes, they will be spaced in a 1,2,1,1,2,1 pattern - the spacing is only a millimeter or two different.

You may be trying to fit screws into the wrongly spaced holes, so try rearranging the gear and see if it fits better using different sets of holes.

^did that, unit is now sitting near the top and fits quite well, works great cause I aint keeping anything else in the rack

The problem I have with the regular ones is that the wheels don't seem to stick that far out so, it for example, you happened to be wheeling the rack across some gravel or grass etc it would bottom out.

Are they all like that or are there better alternatives? - we're all getting old and fed up of carrying the bugger.


i prefer ready made rather than cobbled together so would prefer something that is designed to have wheels than attaching something etc

i use a 3u gator one , with a 1u usb moto interface a,d an 1u headphone amp, and my laptop slides in the front pocket ok, and jam as much junk(wire, power etc) in the back as i can, seem to be holding up

If you want more ground clearance, you probably can't have built in wheels, because they will stop the rack locating neatly on whatever is stacked it. A flat-pack trolley (Maplins/CPC, etc) will have bigger wheels and fatter tyres, and will carry your amp rack then your speaker then whatever else you need to shift over gravel. Built-in wheels only work on hard surfaces.

I'm putting it to the other guys in the band to either got with 2 2u racks or a 4u roller rack or the 4u roller rack bag.

This is actually for our band's PA amps - 2 Crown XLS602s

I just can't make up my mind what to go for
