Hellzero Posted April 25, 2020 Posted April 25, 2020 And another wonderful bass, Victor ! Have a free bump on me. 🙂 1
Kev Posted April 27, 2020 Posted April 27, 2020 If this sounds anything like the Le Fay used by Nathan Navarro in his comparison video, this will sound INCREDIBLE. 1
Bigwan Posted April 27, 2020 Posted April 27, 2020 Simon Grove's LeFay Herr Schwarz has been on my perve list lately... 1
DiMarco Posted May 4, 2020 Posted May 4, 2020 Too bad its not a fiver. Six is a bit too hefty for me. Groetjes & a free bump! 1
DiMarco Posted May 4, 2020 Posted May 4, 2020 There's no nut on this one. Is that a special option @ Le Fay? 1
TorVic Posted May 4, 2020 Author Posted May 4, 2020 (edited) Many of their basses have this design with a 0 fret - https://www.lefay.de/index.php/EN/information/technical-info <snip> Edited June 27, 2020 by TorVic deleted photo 1
DiMarco Posted May 4, 2020 Posted May 4, 2020 I like the idea of that, does it make the open strings sound more like fretted ones? Checked some videos of Singers and man... Marvelous instruments! Still ... six strings I don't know...
TorVic Posted May 4, 2020 Author Posted May 4, 2020 Zero frets are found on many bass models even with a normal nut. (Sandberg, Maruszczyk and many others use the 0 fret). Indeed the idea is that the open string notes sounds more like the fretted note.
Kev Posted May 4, 2020 Posted May 4, 2020 (edited) Is the string resting on the wood behind the fret?? Or if not, would a thicker guage, drop tuned etc? Closer inspection, the “nut” is effectively carved in, nice but again different string gauges? Edited May 4, 2020 by Kev
TorVic Posted May 5, 2020 Author Posted May 5, 2020 I think a slightly thinner gauge might sit well behind the 0 fret but a thicker gauge would not if it doesn't fit in the slot carved in the wood. Having said that, I haven't changed strings myself to test this theory.

Checked some videos of Singers and man... Marvelous instruments! Still ... six strings I don't know... I'm a huge fan of the 0-fret concept. Having owned several Lefays and others basses with it. PRO: - lower, more natural string action in low positions - open string provides same sound as fretted CON: - none The 0-fret is typically a little bit thicker than the other frets. 1
HumblePie Posted May 11, 2020 Posted May 11, 2020 At this price I am running out of reasons not to snag this one up. 1
DiMarco Posted May 11, 2020 Posted May 11, 2020 These Singers sound so awesome... And you should find out why the model has its name. Hilarious story behind it. 1
Hellzero Posted May 19, 2020 Posted May 19, 2020 Except that there's a a mistake in the explanation, the brand cited is not German but American, created in 1851. 😉 1
