Kill the lights

We have a few simple 'disco' lights and you know what it's like. Rummaging around plugging them in means that the lights start and finish a full minute before/after the music - not exactly slick.

Now we've got one of these:

£20 from Maplins, remote control power supply. Money well spent. Now when we're doing the extended rock cliche big finish (I love those!) on the final beat, out go the lights. Much more impressive. Only a small thing but it makes a difference.

I also noticed something similar in Lidl this week for about £12

I hope my wife doesn't find out about this. She will insist it gets connected to my stack and only she has the remote :)

Not sure the domesic ones will handle many lights at once as our house one can't have an iron going through it, for example.

We use these round the house and they are great for avoiding the withering stare from our kid when I leave the telly on standby overnight accidentally ..

On stage we have a big foot switch that does the same thing . Clunk out go the lights ..

These remote control socket thingies are brilliant. I've got them on any mains sockets hidden behind furniture etc. I got them from B & Q and they're good for the whole 3 kilowatts each.
Using them for stage lights is a wizard idea.

i have one of these. Its great. My old freeview box used to go on the blink and I really couldn't be arsed getting up and down all the time to turn it on and off to reset it. I've thrown the box out and replaced it now but the remote power thingy is still handy if I ever do a shared billing and want to turn my amp off to prevent someone else from using it.

The technical blurb says it can switch 10 amps maximum - that would be 8 x 300 Watt PAR cans, for example. Although I'm not sure I'd take it to the limit like that.
