steve-soar Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 (edited) I may have posted this before but here is some of the best bass guitar ever recorded, contained within these 20 seconds of this clip... 2 mins 25 to 2 mins 45. Bliss, bliss, bliss. Check out the thumb muting and The Hook. steve-soar Posted March 3, 2009 Author Posted March 3, 2009 Listen to the end of the song, where Marvin goes from break down to reprise, then he does it again and it is James who leads the dynamic. Quote
redstriper Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 Thanks for posting the link - it still hits the spot. Quote
Thunderthumbs Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 Not many YouTube vids close on 10 mins that I'll sit through, but that was heavenly. Quote
neilb Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 Damn that finished far too early!!!!!!! Timeless music.... Quote
risingson Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 Amazing, and IMO the most influential player that has ever lived Quote
51m0n Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 Thats it, its all done, total class, no point trying to come close to that one, back to the day job; forever Cheers, not much music rates the adjective sublime, but that does. Quote
bluesparky Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 Nice - time to fish out "standing in the shadows of motown" methinks! Quote

acidbass Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 Is it just me, or does Jamerson look really uncomfortable and tense in this video? Superb bassline though! Quote

Dr.Dave Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 I do something similar to the thumb damping so I feel well chuffed with myself now!! Re James looking uncomfortable - I read somewhere he used to 'sit' on a high stool like a stand up player rather than sit right down and rest the Precision on his knee - might explain a little of it at least in terms of posture. bass_ferret Posted March 4, 2009 Posted March 4, 2009 Nobody has to like motown any more than you have to like U2. However, the list of bass players who were influenced by Jamersons playing without even knowing who is was is enormous and you can still hear his influence on music today. Unlike some other revered bass players Quote
