Bilbo Posted May 8, 2020 Posted May 8, 2020 This just landed on my YouTube feed. A Spanish bass player who has taken traditional Flamenco guitar technique (the most sophisticated approach to the instrument in the world) and transferred it to six string bass. I love Nuevo Flamenco as it is but this is astonishing. The guy is called Juan Farjado Louva and is new to me. Makes most slappers look a little silly. Enjoy. 6 1 Quote
LeftyJ Posted May 8, 2020 Posted May 8, 2020 If you enjoy this, have you listened to Carles Benavent yet? Not slap, but fantastic flamenco playing on bass. 1 Quote
Reggaebass Posted May 8, 2020 Posted May 8, 2020 His double thumbing across the strings is amazing, I can just about do it on one 🙂 Quote
Bilbo Posted May 8, 2020 Author Posted May 8, 2020 Charles Benavent invented Flamenco bass. There are some great recordings out there with him on but one of my favourites is Gil Goldstein'Zebracoast. 1 Quote
Barking Spiders Posted May 8, 2020 Posted May 8, 2020 Hugely impressive technical skill but would I want to listen to it for pleasure more than once ? Not really. Quote
Maude Posted May 8, 2020 Posted May 8, 2020 I'm sure you must've seen this @Bilbo, and it seems to have become a kind of party piece for Adam Ben Ezra but it still impresses me whenever I see it. Quote
Clarky Posted May 8, 2020 Posted May 8, 2020 Amazing technical skills. Carles Benavent is a (5 string) pick player, though, so really quite different. Have to say I prefer Carles for listening pleasure. Quote

4000 Posted May 8, 2020 Posted May 8, 2020 I’d really like to try one of those Barcelona’s. With the possible exception of the flat board I think it would suit me. I love flamenco. When I was small we used to go on regular holidays to Mallorca and Spain and it really stuck with me, it always feels like home. 1 Quote
