Cestrian
Not really comparable but I knew virtually nothing about my Father for 50 years until my wife tracked him down. Turns out he’d played the tea chest bass in a skiffle band.

Feel free to share more if you would like to - did you get to meet and spend time with your old man in the end? 1 hour ago, Teebs said: Fascinating story! 42 minutes ago, madshadows said: What an incredible story !! It really is, isn't it! I found myself needing to get to the end to find out what happened and the bass player angle just added to it!

I found myself needing to get to the end to find out what happened and the bass player angle just added to it! I was concerned it might be a Fred Lennon scenario but actually it's worked out well. He lives in Australia but we go on holiday together every year and Skype every weekend. My Mum used to go to The Cavern regularly and I always joked that my Dad could be McCartney. Subsequently, I've found out that my Dad's band played on the opening night of The Cavern.
Bassfinger
Incredible story, although I can't help thinking that a jazz bass player would have sorted it all out long ago.
