Twigman
Nowt wrong with a Squier IMO. I've been using a Squier '57 JV series precision ( Salmon pink (!!!!) with a tortoiseshell plate and rosewood board ) for 24years now!! Granted it played much better after a refret and renut and setting up properly but I really don't understand the snobbery which people have against the Squiers. KevB
There's another one here, not quite as cheap as the last one I posted (which apparently went for £120 - bargain or what?) but for a Pistols trib it'd do the job; http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FENDER-SQUIER-BASS-P...A1%7C240%3A1318

If you really want it active, chuck in an Artec 2-band eq.
Good plan!
Duarte
For punk...you honestly want a P. Passive doesn't mean it 'sounds crap', a crisp active tone would certainly sound crap (for punk) Check out the bass solo (played on a P) in this... waynepunkdude
Matt Freeman switches between P's and Jazz's, he has also been known to pick up a Rick, I don't what he uses on Maxwell Murder but last time I saw them live he used a US P white with a black scratchplate.
