Can anyone advise?! If printing out templates (I’m still going at it) what would be the most important part to get aligned?!

I’m going for the tuner holes but is that too obvious an option?!

Thank you for that, quite insightful although I do have to admit, you lost me a bit with all the swinging and moving and marking of the tips and curves, some pictures (if you can) would be massively appreciated and might help worm it into my skull a bit...

Just in the process of reducing the photos.

Right here goes.

Telecaster template with 38mm nut.  P-bass template 42mm nut.

To get the E tuner area just get the template touching top and side. Draw round it.

Place your template to the G side of the nut. Mark 1

Set Point 2 .

Move the template to give a clean line for Points 1+2.

Think I see what you did there!

if I may ask another question, providing I follow the steps as above, when printing a template, would it be best to print so that but is 38mm (as is my neck) or larger or smaller?!

ive been using (or trying to) this template (mike dirnt one at the bottom)

It leads to a lot of faffing about Dan,I've tried scaling before . Sometimes they print out shorter instead of just a narrower nut. print at 100%.

All that matters is the lines flow together in a pleasing way 😎

Happy to supply those few pointers to help you on your way 🙂

BTW

I'm just back from Brian's unit. Fender 51 pickguards are now part of the inventory 😎 He's used my Fender Japan for the template so it's the rounded horns found on the reissue and Sting models.

Thank you for the heads up! Very Much appreciated

I'd also gave him a Harley Benton PB-50 plate to scan. No good for your bass  but perfect timing for Brian,he had 3 on order for a fella in Italy and only a paper tracing to work from 😁

Finally made a start, nearly finished the first bit, bit more smoothing of the edges and I can start on the bulbous hump...

happy so far...

Bit better I would say...little bit more smoothing and I think we’re there!

Any eagle-eyed people see where improvements can be made?!

Looks good to me.

The hardest part is knowing when to stop...

I've ordered a Harley Benton kit and that comes with a basically rectangular headstock. Not sure whether to do a classic 'fender' or put the 1987 spiky Fender headstock on it for a 'bass that never was'...
