Merton Posted May 20, 2020 Posted May 20, 2020 (edited) For that money you can go fully custom. My ACG Skelf is the best modern rock bass I've ever had, built entirely for that purpose and well within your budget: http://www.acguitars.co.uk/project/0274skelf4/ Edited May 20, 2020 by Merton pic added 1 Quote
Mastodon2 Posted May 20, 2020 Posted May 20, 2020 While Spector is the obvious choice, I'd definitely recommend giving an Attitude a try. They have a certain something that just makes them work so well. I have an Attitude LTD II with a J pickup added to the bridge. I actually rarely use the woofer pickups or the stereo outputs, but it does sound absolutely huge to use the woofer clean and the P/J pickups running through an overdrive pedal. The necks on Attitudes are pretty fat but it somehow feels right for the bass. That said, most Spectors aren't exactly slim in the neck department either. Quote

ped Posted May 20, 2020 Posted May 20, 2020 Give Vigier a look, their modern series 4 basses (Arpege and passion) and the Excess model would all be great options. Quote
BigRedX Posted May 20, 2020 Posted May 20, 2020 (edited) With a £5k budget a Gus G3 wouldn't be out of the question, provided you didn't go mad on the extras. Edited May 20, 2020 by BigRedX Quote
