bubinga5
Wanted to share this. IMHO this is the best in the pocket bass playing i have ever heard.. no chops, fills, runs,, just awsome feel, electric bass..Above all,. i love her ghost/percusive notes ,,any notes she plays, are set up so well by the amazing percusive touch she has!! If you dont dig this you dont get groove..IMHO..and that Jazz sounds so good!! The best groove player alive today http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6VeqnL9IO-
Kiwi
I love her playing. I remember catching her live on that Sundance tour and her bass notes on the one and maybe two, followed by some melodic touches is a very distinctive part of her style. silverfoxnik
Fantastic! She reaches parts of 'the pocket' other bass players fail to reach..

wombatboter
I love her playing, I bought her two first cd's...saw her three times live in concert (not always that convincing, last time was more of a jam with a dj and a band helplessly looking for directions and just relying on "the groove".) That's a bit my problem with a lot of funk... Even with this youtube thing : after two and a half minutes, I was actually a bit bored. Great bassplaying, tight pocket but I just love to hear a song. Maybe that's what keeps me away from a lot of funk-concerts. After seeing a jam on two chords during ten minutes my attention goes somewhere else, how great the playing might be. Still, great bassplayer..One of her basslines I use a lot for soundchecks because it just sounds and feels so great.

51m0n
Could listen to her jam on two chords all day myself. Love that kind of playing. Although its more fun to play than listen to if I'm really honest (I can attempt to play like that all week without getting in the slightest bit bored), that is absolutely dependent on a drummer who's great at working off the tiniest inflections and rhythmic pushes and what have you, a drum machine is not what you need Cheers for posting though, I'm always after little bits of Meshell to cop the feel of (oo-er), love her funkier stuff, the introspective soul searching stuff I can live without... Dubs
Just listened to The World Has Made Me The Man Of My Dreams. I f***ing loved it! It’s like the best parts of a lot of genres that I listen to a lot of the time merged into 1 with a beautiful soulful voice articulating these amazing emotions/views/opinions/feelings/stories. So many stylistic features of DnB and some electro genres; not what I expected at all but it works so well. Really great stuff. Got to listen to more... jakenewmanbass
She is the business IMO, it's heart and feet and soul music. Not just for lofty ideals (although she is articulate), just move with it. It's the earth, it's sh*t, piss blood, guts, tears and sp**k music. risingson
Mee-shell Ne-dejeo-chello is how I would say it. (I'm not great at that phonetic spelling!) Great player.

Kiwi
I believe her name is pronounced Me-shel Nuh-duh-gey-o-chello. In terms of her creative process, her lyrics have been pretentious at times in the past but the deal is that you're with her on her creative journey for better or worse. She more or less expects your tolerance and appreciation as a fan. I don't have a problem with that personally.

Captain Bassman
I've been listening to Peace Beyond Passion almost almost constantly for the last month. I'd forgotten just how cool and album it is. My faves on there are The Way and Bitter Sweet. Just fairly simple, grooving, melodic basslines - nothing flashy - and a tone to die for. There's a tune on Comfort Woman, can't remember which one, where she very deliberately plays behind the beat during the verses and then brings it into line for the choruses. Sounds easy but it ain't! Class!
