Peter Popovic Posted June 3, 2020 Author Posted June 3, 2020 Final coat of finishing oil on headstock. Now I’ll wait to cure that and then, sanding to make it satin 4 Quote
Jimothey Posted June 4, 2020 Posted June 4, 2020 Looking great! I posted the review that was linked in your thread my only criticism with my bass is the finish looks really thick and lifeless I keep on meaning to sand it back and refinish it and your thread has spurred me on to do it! I'll just probably Danish oil it tho, How easy did you find the finish to sand off? 👍 Quote
Peter Popovic Posted June 4, 2020 Author Posted June 4, 2020 Thanks Jimothey👍 To be honest, after a couple of coats of finishing oil, mine looks thick aswell...after sanding with 2500, very gently, it looks much more better and no so thick anymore, grain pops out nicely. It’s not done yet though. Will be sanding even more for satin look. Original finish went down pretty easy I would say. I’ve used 80-240 sand paper. But it depends on finish you having on your bass. May I ask for some pics please? 1 Quote
Jimothey Posted June 4, 2020 Posted June 4, 2020 (edited) Your body has got a much better grain pattern than mine! But I noticed the leftys all seem to have a nicer grain on them I'm thinking maybe coloured will look better than natural, I've got a Blue and a Black RB corvette so maybe a whitewash might look good? 🤔 Edited June 4, 2020 by Jimothey 1 Quote
Peter Popovic Posted June 4, 2020 Author Posted June 4, 2020 I would say so...the coloured will look better. What I would do is: sand her off to bare wood, stain her with black stain, let it cure then sand her of again...and finally put your preffered coloured stain on her. The grain will pop up nicely. 1 Quote
Jimothey Posted June 5, 2020 Posted June 5, 2020 I think that's a good shout! then whitewashed over the top might look a bit different 🤔 1 Quote
Peter Popovic Posted June 5, 2020 Author Posted June 5, 2020 Do it!👍 and then show us results here Quote
prowla Posted June 5, 2020 Posted June 5, 2020 I always wondered what he did after his TV series finished. Quote
Peter Popovic Posted June 6, 2020 Author Posted June 6, 2020 Another update. Frets levelling, polishing done and I’ve rounded ends. 2 Quote
Peter Popovic Posted June 18, 2020 Author Posted June 18, 2020 Maybe black hardware suits her better? Opinions? 2 Quote
Pea Turgh Posted June 18, 2020 Posted June 18, 2020 I really like the contrast chrome brings. Hmm. Black might make the blue stand out more. On the fence sorry. Quote
Peter Popovic Posted June 18, 2020 Author Posted June 18, 2020 Same here...like the contrast chrome, blue. I’ll see when I’ll put her together and then... maybe even gold hardware? 2 Quote

SpondonBassed Posted June 18, 2020 Posted June 18, 2020 Gold on blue might be a bit Tutankhamun... Nice. 1 Quote

The cream one may be a 4000, but I think it could be better with the neck pickup. The blue one is the one I'm debating putting that brass pickguard on, which will then cascade out to the other bits... Edited June 19, 2020 by prowla 2 Quote
Richard R Posted June 19, 2020 Posted June 19, 2020 If you can do the Subaru stars and a huge 555 logo then even better 😅However writing "Colin McRae" on the headstock might be going a bit far. Should look good, awaiting pics with interest. 1 Quote

Unlike most current copies, these are true Ric 33.25" scale. I didn't see any left-hookers. 1 Quote

Peter Popovic Posted June 22, 2020 Author Posted June 22, 2020 Done!!! So after a couple of weeks bass is finally done. It’s not perfect by any means. Electronics pretty much shi......t😂 so that would be the first thing to swap for something else (any suggestions for something decent and not so expensive? Preferably pre wired...I’m not so good with soldering) waiting for custom decal I’ve ordered (Popbass instead of Rockbass) and then...well, don’t know yet😁 ...and some pics 5 Quote
