teaser360 Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 we got ourselves a set of stage monitors and after trying them out for the first time yesterday we where getting alot of buzzing coming from them, after having a look at them when i got home i decided the problem lied with the cables, i plugged in a heavy duty guitar cable to the output of the mixer and into the input to the monitors, and hey presto buzzing 90% illiminated, should i use a a screened cable like those we use for our basses or should i use standard speaker cable from mixer desk to monitor? Stewart Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 Where's the amplifier? You need screened (like a guitar cable) before the amp, you need speaker cable from the amp to the speakers... Quote
KennysFord Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 You should always use line level leads for equipment like this,ie xlr or instrument leads.Speaker leads are just for speakers. Quote
Dubs Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 Using a balanced connection such as an XLR will cancel out all the noise and interference that’s not being caused by the source. If the amp or monitors are causing the hum/buzzing then I’m not sure what you can do, but try using XLR cables rather than instrument cables. Quote
teaser360 Posted March 8, 2009 Author Posted March 8, 2009 many thanks, that is what I thought, the monitor is active so is built into the monitor, i will make a new cable up tomorrow, as i said the humming stops when i connected my guitar cable to the input Quote
