Si600 Posted December 29, 2024 Author Posted December 29, 2024 End of year report: Could have finished it by now . But I haven't and I won't. In trying to get the pickups to work I've made a mess of the loom @KiOgon made for me so I'm having to find some bits of wire. However, it is all together and there's no technical reason the strings can't go on, except it doesn't feel right. Pic for attention 5 Quote

Si600 Posted December 30, 2024 Author Posted December 30, 2024 Black knurled Tele style. I don't really like chicken heads or skirted ones. The ones which are like a skirted one with the numbers but the skirt is inside the cylinder are quite nice, but still not really my taste. 1 Quote

Si600 Posted Wednesday at 21:38 Author Posted Wednesday at 21:38 Broken a screw off in the face of the headstock fitting a string bar. There's a little stump poking out, any suggestions on how to get it out? Quote
Stub Mandrel Posted Wednesday at 21:39 Posted Wednesday at 21:39 Can you file flats and use pliers on it Quote
paul_5 Posted Wednesday at 22:40 Posted Wednesday at 22:40 Drill a small hole through the centre and carefully glue an even smaller allen key in there, then when the glue has set simply unscrew it. It'll cost you an allen key, but it'll stop you needing to resort to more drastic measures. Quote

Next time I'd drill a slightly deeper pilot hole for the screw - small screws like this don't tend to be high grade steel, and they shear off when too much torque is applied. Quote

I have a feeling that the hole was a bit small. As to gluing an allen key in to it, it will be so small it would bend before it turned I think, the screw is only about 3.5mm including thread. Quote

Perhaps repeated heating with a soldering iron would help to loosen it...? Let it cool fully before applying heat again. 1 Quote
Si600 Posted Thursday at 09:31 Author Posted Thursday at 09:31 I'm leaning towards very carefully filing the stump off flush, filling and spritzing it with a splash of black and laquer and seeing if it will not look too lairy against the existing finish. Then putting the string bar at a jaunty angle and pretending it was supposed to be like that. Quote

You wouldn't then have the metal to "worry" the finishing process. 1 Quote

Get the screw stub nice and hot then, as @SpondonBassed says, let it cool and then it should come out pretty easily with just a pair of needle-nosed pliers 1 Quote
