buff
Ive recently bought a classic series 70's jazz, in sunburst. I hate sunburst, anyone have an idea if it would be poly or cellulose finish ? It does appear to have only a thin coating on it. Take back to bare wood or just flatten back and prime/topcoat ?
Bobo_08
What's the year of manufacture? You should be able to type in the serial number on Fenders website it may give you that information. Also I believe poly has been used since the late 70's, a Google is your friend here., Obviously there are exceptions to this such as custom shops, road worn signature models and the highway on series. buff
Turns out its a thin poly finish, warmed it with a hot air gun and peel away. Took less than an hour.

Reggaebass
I’ve stripped a few of my bass bodies with the heat gun for refinishing, it’s definitely the right tool, as long as you don’t scorch it , any pics @buff

buff
If it wasn't for the lower section being lighter, I might of just clear coated it. But now going for a shoreline gold ( closest halfords ) match with black over the top,
buff
Managed to put the primer, then gold then black on today. Let it harden off over night then flatten a lacquer it tomorrow, its shrunk back in a few places but should be ok once flattened.
