steviedee Posted May 30, 2020 Posted May 30, 2020 (edited) Hi I just bought a bass and it’s good but when the treble is fully on or fully off the bass cuts out. It’s active could it be shorting? Edited May 30, 2020 by steviedee Quote
ikay Posted May 30, 2020 Posted May 30, 2020 This TB thread is about a similar problem - https://www.talkbass.com/threads/peavey-millennium-bxp-ac-preamp-cuts-out-when-treble-control-turned.1098452/ What make of bass is yours? As a first step it might be worth giving the iffy pot a squirt of contact cleaner to see if that makes any difference. 1 Quote
steviedee Posted May 30, 2020 Author Posted May 30, 2020 It’s a Bass Collection, the pots were a bit wobbly and I did use a bit of contact cleaner but maybe needs to be more targeted. Quote

What cleaner did you use? You only should use Deoxit D5 and then only the tiniest amount. Way too many pots have been ruined by the application of 'cleaner.' BassBunny Posted June 14, 2020 Posted June 14, 2020 If it's an SGC Nanyo Bass Collection, the pre-amps are the weak link. It's 30 years old, or more. I've got 3 of them and have changed all the pre-amps. Depending on which pre-amp it is, ( I'm aware of 3 different ones ), I may have the values if you need to swap it. 1 Quote

I'll open it up and post a pic! Quote
steviedee Posted June 17, 2020 Author Posted June 17, 2020 Here is a pic of the pre! I opened the bass up and noticed one of the pots was touching the circuit board and another loose pot was causing the board to move when maxed out either way causing it to short.... seems fixed now! 1 Quote
