fretmeister Posted June 4, 2020 Posted June 4, 2020 https://www.pmtonline.co.uk/b-stock-ashdown-geezer-butler-head-of-doom-signature-amp#product-details That's nearly half price! If I wasn't banned from buying shiny things at the moment I'd have tried that. Quote
Lozz196 Posted June 4, 2020 Posted June 4, 2020 Great amps, I tried one at Ashdown HQ and you could just tell it’s one of those amps that will sit in the mix perfectly. If I weren’t both in a non-gigging band and offloading I’d go for that. The Geezer also has the bonus of looking like eyes on a darkly lit stage due to the two VU meters. Quote
danbowskill Posted June 4, 2020 Posted June 4, 2020 I was going to buy that one... Suprisingly been there a little while now. I asked and its supplied with rack ears 1 Quote
fretmeister Posted June 4, 2020 Author Posted June 4, 2020 I've never tried one but I like Geezer's sound, and the core ABM sound. I was slightly put off by the removal of the compressor, but then again I cannot remember what the ABM compressor is like, let alone whether like it or not! 1 Quote
ryancowell25 Posted June 4, 2020 Posted June 4, 2020 I have one of these - bought as B Stock but not at that bargain price. Absolutely stunning amp and I don't miss the compressor at all. Surprisingly clean if you need it and incredibly loud. It does a lot more than it implies on the tin. It's very very impressive and fantastically well built. Also more visually understated in real life than in advertising shots. I think it's one of Ashdown's best looking solid state amps. Quote
ryancowell25 Posted June 4, 2020 Posted June 4, 2020 By all accounts it's Geezers amp when touring 'smaller venues' God only knows how loud his Ashdown Sabbath Rig was.... Quote
dudewheresmybass Posted June 5, 2020 Posted June 5, 2020 The mind boggles I was SERIOUSLY tempted with this until I bought my other dbs rig. still am truth be told 😂 Quote
Woodinblack Posted June 5, 2020 Posted June 5, 2020 Yeh, I saw that before and was really tempted, but too big for me Quote
longtimefred Posted June 9, 2020 Posted June 9, 2020 I've got one and it's awesome!!! That is a bargain. 1 Quote
Painy Posted June 9, 2020 Posted June 9, 2020 I'm curious. Apart from the valve drive which I understand is a bit different to suit Geezer's requirements, are these actually voiced any differently to the standard ABM? Quote
ryancowell25 Posted June 10, 2020 Posted June 10, 2020 I could be wrong but mine sounds like it is voiced like the ABM 600 Difference being form factor and that they are handbuilt by Ashdown in the UK, extra VU meter and different valve stage Quote
ryancowell25 Posted June 10, 2020 Posted June 10, 2020 Just compared manuals for both and specifications are identical Quote
Painy Posted June 10, 2020 Posted June 10, 2020 That's interesting. I can see why they've brought out the new ABM600 rack head in the same form factor. You can get the dual VU styling but without having to pay for ask the extra connectivity options on the Geezer that most people will never use. To be fair though, if I was looking to buy another amp it would probably be the new CTM200 anyway. Quote
