I decided to look at how I wear the bass, where I play it and carry it and how and do I think I would wear and tear it.

So........Completely blank bass, I stained the whole bass (similar to what @hooky_lowdownsaid tea or if you soak wire wool in vinegar for 24 hours that solution produces a certain colour ) I used an amber and brown wood stain mix to get the colour of the wood, applying and sanding till correct after flaming the grain to bring it out.

I wanted gold to wear down to white, to wear down to wood.

i used a mixture of heat/freeze, wire wool, sanding, stones and carrying it around to get this wear pattern.

It’s a PJB Bass cub - 100w 2 inputs for another bass or microphone, one of the best DI’s out there as well and pretty enough that Mrs Cuzzie allows it out and not hidden

Another very light relic, some by accident, some by design. The long scratch near the bridge is a drill accident during various mods to fit the Seymour Duncan Rickenbacker pick ups in

...Anyway, getting back to Relic'ing. At the beginning Cuzzie says he did nothing to the metal hardware, heres a tip for anyone wanting to age the chrome. You need a black bin liner, a saucer and some Muriatic Acid, which can be picked up from B&Q. Inflate the bin bag and place the parts you want to age inside, the bin bag is on a bench btw. Next put the saucer inside with about 200ml of Muriatic acid on it, get the bag well inflated and tie a knot in it. The whole thing now needs to be left to let the fumes from the acid do their work, it's best to do it in the morning so you can keep an eye on the progress, about 8 hours is good depending on the level of aging you are after

Yes I've done this although I used a large Tupperware container with a lid, muriatic acid to just about cover the bottom of said container then parts in a smaller container (no lid obvs) placed in the big one then big lid on.

I found about 2 hours inside worked a dream with nickel plated hardware. It didn't really do anything to chrome plated hardware though, even after leaving it in there for 2 days!

I've never relic'd anything, but I confess I find the whole thing fascinating. I used to be in the 'why would you?' camp, until it dawned on me that it's an art form all of its own. 

I love the creativity. @Cuzzie 's paint cracks and crazing is superb.

As with all art you don't have to like every single example to appreciate it.

To me the the key is to think about how you want to relic and what you want it to look like-just taking a band saw to it is not right.

The Bravewood is a better attempt but I agree, not really a great copy.
