Same woods, same electronics. It's a fun bass, I like mine, but you get what you pay for. I guess most people on here would rip off all the hardware and electronics to replace them with better after market items. However, you can’t cure a dodgy truss rod that way. It might still be worth it if you get a good one. I can’t think of another shorty P-Bass like object that comes anywhere near this price bracket. Funny how they vary - I bought a PB Shorty soon after they came out and straight out of the box gigged it. No sharp ends apart from the nut, tuners aren't perfect but hold tune, no truss rod issues at all. I changed the pickguard to black 'cos I don't like white ones. Then a while later I changed the pickup to a Tonerider 'cos I wanted a bit more bite and beef but, tbf to the stock one, it was a fine vintage tone. I'd buy one of these new ones except that my existing one has it all sorted. It is a mystery how they do this. But my best guess is that they are working on a new version 2 with a pickup switch or a blend, instead of the P and J pickup both always full on, with no options for switching or blending, like this first version worked. I do however really love how that new shorty P Bass looks, and I actually also think the stock pickup sounds awesome. So will for certain soon get one of those. And even the stock pots are decent, with a good treble rolloff for all those classic P tones. They're issueing it under a new "Atelier Z design" brand (the old one was already more affordable than the regular Atelier Z models, and was built at Fujigen - like all their other models with the KTS titanium rods in the neck). Looks really nice, but I don't dig the pickguard shape. The old ones had a Mustang pickguard, but this new one has the pointy bit next to the fingerboard that would also be there on a Jazz or Precision and it just looks out of place to me on a Mustang design. Intonation is a bit dodgy on short scale basses anyway; why make it even worse? The first thing I would want to do as an owner, is put a decent four saddle bridge on it and it would just annoy me that I have to do that on a premium instrument. 2 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
