I had a SH one from Bass Direct that I moved on here that I couldn't get to go low enough, otherwise I would have kept it. Even Mrs 2pods loved the look of it. Why didn't you just shim the neck? Or was it a fret work issue?

Does this suggest we've all decided we like them so much that we're keeping them? My personal preference for the 'Gibson' scale length goes back to the '60s. I think I count 19 adverts for SSs placed on BC in the last month

Three here in constant rotation - Dano 63 Redburst, Japanese Mustang 1998 Red Competition Stripes, Gretsch Jet with the single humbucker… love ‘em all… I’m sure my Pbass is sitting in the corner mumbling “play play, play me, please…😂

The only issue I've ever had was a tendency for the bass to naturally hang a little more towards horizontal than I prefer due to the lightness of the body, however I sorted that by fitting some Res-o-lite tuners. I'll probably do the same with the new one at some point. Maybe not quite 2nd hand prices but the only place I've seen them for sale at anything like an affordable price is directly from Vox. They still currently have some A1H refurbs available via https://www.voxamps.co.uk/products/vsba-a1h-mbmb I sorted the strap balance with an extension bracket fixed to the original mounting points and added strap-lock buttons too. Intended to tidy it up a bit but you don't actually see it with the strap fitted.

Harley Benton MV-4MSB gets my vote provided you're not bothered by the name on the headstock. I've got one and it's superb. Way above what you'd expect for just under £200 and I'd say compares favourably with stuff at the top of your price range.

Interestingly just spotted that they're no longer fitting the premium Gotoh hardware mine came with, even though the price is the same. I assume that is to cover the extra production expenses for installing a pickup switch, including extra routing, unlike the first version that had both pickups full on in parallel permanently all the time. Well spotted, I didn't see that. I'm sure the HB-for-Gotoh replacement hardware is more than good enough, so the added switch makes the bass even better value for money.

I had to have a look at the Thomann website, so now I have GAS again. Thanks guys! Must resist the temptation. Fortunately, it says not available for about 9 weeks. I notice they are offering a bundle deal with a semi-rigid case. I couldn’t work out from the dimensions whether it is a bespoke SS case, or just a standard case. If the latter, I imagine the bass is going to rattle around in it. It would be nice if they were selling a SS case. I would buy several. I can’t understand why nobody is offering a reasonably priced SS case, given the popularity of shorties at the moment.

You and me both Pat! I fancy one of these in black, I know when I bought one of the HB Shorty P basses to try they recommended a guitar gig bag but as you say a dedicated SS case would be much better and would probably be very popular.

ajkula66
Greetings to my fellow short-scale bass players! New to this forum - OK, I have been lurking occasionally - but not new to bass (45 years and counting) or the concept of short scales... My current crop From left to right: '69 Gibson EB-0 (modded), '76 Guild JS-2, '69 Gibson EB-3, '70 Gibson Les Paul Bass, '72 Gibson Les Paul Triumph Bass. Yes, they all sport Hipshot Supertone bridges and no, I'm NOT a paid endorser... 19

I'm up there in age and not in the best of health, so I rarely play out but it's usually the modded EB-0 which is my #1 and will be going to grave with me, or Les Paul Triumph if I don't know what kind of amp is waiting for me. 4 1
